So, did I. My friend and I were way underaged for this R rated movie. We were like less than ten. Haha. I remember not caring for this movie until I got older though. I don't even remember any cheering.

Mordhaussaid:

*promote I remember cheering in the theater. Yes, I saw the original release, I'm old. =P

My dad took me, I was just 16. The perfect age for this one.
It took some convincing, the first one literally scared him out of his seat and had him hiding behind the one in front. This one made him jump, but he didn't leave the theater shaking in fear.

I bet he would be more scared with the first movie, Alien! That was scarier. I saw that on a VHS tape years later. Probably when I was a teen at my next door neighbor's house.

I rewatched both in HD last year. Both were still very good.

Aliens was one of the first movies I watched on Laser Disc and the first time I saw a "director's cut" of a movie. My cousin and I were watching along and suddenly there was a scene with sentry guns. We were like, "WTF?" We had seen Aliens twice in the theater and rented it on VHS a few more, and had never seen this scene before.

That was when I learned that the version of the movie released to tape and on other pay to view formats, was at the purview of studios, but Laser Discs weren't covered in their contracts, thus affording directors the ability to add deleted scenes that they wanted in the original theatrical release.

That was when we started renting other Laser Discs and started seeing longer movies, such as The Abyss with the original, longer ending, Terminator 2, with more scenes of the T-1000 breaking down, and some others. Hmmm, I just noticed that the last 2 I listed, and Aliens, were all James Cameron movies. Neat.

THANK YOU!!! I remember the sentry guns, and thought I was going senile because I never saw them again...

I have to say... I am not a fan of the sentry gun scene.

They're an undeniably cool bit of colonial marine tech, but I think they reduce the aliens to force of numbers.

I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I really don't like any of the changes in the special edition.
- Ripley being told about her daughter makes her reaction to newt predictable.
- seeing the colony before the marines arrive gives away what happened (although given the title, I guess this is kinda obvious)

Mostly though Aliens is already a pretty long movie (137m) and the extra scenes just don't add much.

In conclusion, no should change the things I like and you're all either too old or too young. get off my lawn.

It could had been worse. Look at the original Star Wars trilogy.
