Might be a good topic for a poll. I think I like it as is - they are usually very awesome videos that I've forgotten about. I can see the point though - if you are expecting only the freshest stuff on the front page.

If you expect the freshest stuff, choose newness as sorting. Problem solved, wouldn't you say?

And for the record, if I select to sort by "newness"... the first five videos that greet me range in age from one to four months. That speaks for itself.

Perhaps the right step to take would be limiting its use by making it cost more Power Points. Yes, we should probably start a poll. I'll go ahead with that.
