younger brothers meet technology - paint ball turret

Awesome.

Now, is it just me or does it seem to be at its best when it has a nice, high-contrast target to track? It appears the shield might have been more a liability than protection. I'm guessing it's a simple motion-detection algorithm, with little to no shape recognition beyond that, so should I ever meet one of these, my approach would be to move very slowly and try to figure out where the sensor is, then try to shoot that. Assuming, of course, I had my own gun instead of just a stick pony.

I bet they have the computer comparing what it sees to a snapshot of what the turret is supposed to 'protect', and it will fire at anything that is 'out of place' when it's active. There were a few times when he'd crouch and sit still, and the thing would just unload on him, but when he hid behind the tree it hold fire.

Either way, fix the issue with the paintball loading, and put some better speakers on that thing, and you have a truly terrifying contraption.

It certainly looked like it, although I think he might have also been wearing several layers of clothing causing the majority of the balls that hit his body to bounce rather than burst, reducing our visual confirmation of the number of hits.

I think he forgot to set the switch on his lawn sprinkler from evil to good.

Upvote for the 9 volt lashup on the back. I'm guessing the marker is full auto since there is a small servo on the trigger that just engages it?
