he's entirely natural. he's not doing a newscaster parody, like colbert or the other daily show reporters. so it's harder to tell if he's joking.

also notice that his target is not the media, or the president, but americans in general. very tough.

Cutting edge irony in its most desctructive/constructive form. You could tell that the audience was almost unwilling to go there on the 9/11 comparison. Great stuff.
