Sounds great, but there's a warning there "Do not take vaccines if you've chosen to die from the mumps". I think I'd rather leave my options open. I mean, mumps is a lot better than dying by torture.

Don't be taken in. Use common sense. Vaccines might cause you to die by torture.

It's all about the percentages though. Imagine a population of 100,000 and 95% of them are vaccinated. Non vaccinated people have a 50% risk of contracting a disease. Vaccinated people have a 5% risk of contracting a disease.

In this case there will be 2,500 people who have not been vaccinated who get the disease, and 4,750 who have been vaccinated who get the disease. There are nearly twice as many people with the disease who have been vaccinated than haven't.

That's a total of 7,250 people with the disease. If there was no vaccine that figure would be 50,000.

Obviously I've used easy round figures but the maths works with the real world figures too.

It's such a shame that collective public memory is so short when it comes to such things as huge chunks of the earth's population being wiped out by pandemics before vaccines came into existence.

People are so quick to argue with the opinions of scientists who have dedicated decades of their life to understanding a particular field with utmost rigour, yet if you were to question their opinions on whatever they were expert in (eg. horses), they'd demand to know what authority you had to question them. And that's because people don't understand just how rigourous and punishing scientific investigation is. If there is anything you can trust in this world, it's the consensus of the scientific community.

Shame we can't do some sort of savegame, go without vaccines and watch everyone die, then load the game and say "see? now shut up."

Unless their chosen method of torture is mumps.
