More fun: The earth rotates around the sun at about 67,062mph (107,300kph). And the Sun moves through space around our Milky Way galaxy at about 558,000mph, (900,000kph). Kinda cool how fast we're moving in this 'verse.

Also his orbit is kind of exaggerated as far as how eliptical it is. Closest point is about 91 million miles, furthest is 95 - so a bit more round.

Where is this from and how accurate is it? .. At least the opening and ending animation of earth's orbit around the sun is quite drastically exaggerated. Or am I wrong in assuming that it's earths orbit that they are showing? Kind of misleading in any case.

The difference from "Aphelion" to "Perihelion" is so small that it's barely visible when drawn. Looks like a circle more then an elipse.

The Earth is actually flat and resting upon pillars. Covered in a blanket of night with pinholes which we know as the stars. The sun is a flaming chariot. The fast moving dots against the blanket are the various gods moving about. We are at the center of existence because we are special... and it all was created in the span of a few days a mere 6000 years ago. At that point humanity spawned from a single male, and a female clone spawned from a rib bone. Soon after the 'lesser' female was tempted by a talking snake into eating an apple she was told not to. Of course then.. shit hits the fan. You listen to God or you get your ass whooped. Now.. don't ask me about how two individuals spawned a whole species... as obviously their offspring would have had to procreate with each other, or with their mother to get the first few generations going in full swing.

Perfectly plausible start to all existence if you ask me... not this fancy schmancy science stuff. Hmph!

What a happy coincidence. I was just thinking about the analemma the other day.>> ^rottenseed:

I find it rather awesome that the tilting cycle of the earth is so close to its cycle around the sun. Is this just a coincidence or is there a force that makes these 2 cycles so close in value?
I think you misunderstand what's going on there. The Earth's tilt doesn't change noticeably during a sidereal year. The precession cycle is about 26,000 years.
Opposite hemispheres are pointed toward the sun at each solstice because the tilt doesn't change.

Turtles all the way down.

Dang. You beat me to it.

It's obviously not drawn to scale. They exaggerate the eccentricity by a factor of a million or something. If they drew it to scale you wouldn't be able to see the difference between perihelion and aphelion.
