Of course crash tests are done at 40mph. at 120mph there's nothing left to measure.
Sagemindsays...If you think about it, this is the equivalent to two cars hitting head on at 60 MPH each so the event isn't too far-fetched. I think this is important because it's a speed most people drive on a regular basis (Hwy Driving) and it's important to understand and comprehend the dangers of what could happen when things go wrong.
This is why you don't do your makeup or sleep while you should be paying attention to the road!

EMPIREsays...I don't think my car even reaches 120mph, and if it does, I certainly wouldn't feel safe driving it at that speed. I already had a car ride with a "friend" a few years ago, and he took it up to 155mph in a BMW he owned. Never again.

I've gotten to 90 something in one of my cars but it was shaking too bad to keep going, most cars I've had become unstable around 80 something. I mean the speedometer goes to 120, but I question if they can go that fast.

My car can reach 45 MPH and I've yet to crash at anything more than 0.45 MPH - but time's on my side, I'm sure this will change.

im guessing they're of the older and clunkier variety? my old 93 accord ex got to 110 and it was in a pretty wretched state.

Think of it this way:
An immoveable wall being crashed into by a 60mph car, imparts the force of a 60mph car on the car crashing into it. So ultimately, the two collisions are identical.

Yeah.
Crash tests are usually scenarios where the safety features of the car have a hope in hell of saving the people in the car. There would be very few vehicles (if any) that could attain that speed that would prevent the occupants from being reduced to a red paste.
