The most insightful, in-depth, hard-hitting sports interview

An awesome bit of trolling by rugby player Brendan Venter.

He got a bit of a telling off apparently
Yogisays...

I never understood this side of sports. If I were an awesome athlete or coach I wouldn't ever talk to the media. Why would I? Their vacuous questions and dickery isn't interesting nor is it helpful to ANYONE. And now this guy is told to fall in line? Or fucking What?! Fuck off.

ravermansays...

Good reaction to most reporting in general - so often they are just twisting the knife to get more "train wreck" on tv.

"How did it feel when your whole family was killed in a car crash?" "it felt.... Awesome?"
They don't care about the answer just capturing the suffering.

Deanosays...

I must be the only one who thinks Mr Venter is being a complete dick. The interviewer is giving him the opportunity to say whatever he likes which is what most media trained professionals will do. This just made him look like a complete arse and I feel for the interviewer.

At most the whole thing is supposed to be about 1-2 minutes so just say the usual innocuous things and then go.

rychansays...

I felt like the interviewer was being a weasel. Bill Belichick is much more subtle at this type of trolling. He'll go on a radio show for an hour, string together sequences of words, and yet somehow provide no information. He's really insulting the audience any time he opens his mouth. I wish he would just outright refuse to give information rather than give the vapid answers that he does.

There's a board with sponsor's names behind them. I think that's the sole reason these interviews exist.

That's a solid reason but it's also to provide some immediate feedback to fans. You want the coaches to be accountable for the performances so tv and press interviews have always been important obligations.

MonkeySpanksays...

I guess many people missed the joke. This guy is perfectly normal. He was messing with the interviewer, and I quote "In December, Venter was warned by the ERC after giving a bizarre post-match interview following the Saracens defeat to Racing Métro 92 in the Heineken cup. Venter gave extremely short answers to every question posed to him, and afterwards admitted that he was inspired from a comedy sketch from the film Mike Bassett: England Manager which he had recently watched.[3] The interview has since become a big hit on youtube."

This guy should be a senator!
