Lets see, $20 each for those hard cover books, nine books - That's $180 in books to make an empty box for your shelf.

That's not a craft, that's an investment.

(and those are cheap kids books - The Unfortunate Events Series, other titles would cost more...)

yup, dead, just watched the buzzfeed version with the weird doubled audio.

That really is an absolutely fucking terrible idea.

"Here I have a great collection of wonderful stories"

"Let me destroy them so I can take a tiny bit of them and paste them onto a cardboard box that I'll probably throw out in a few months"

I found another embed, from Perez, of all places.

Although I think cutting up books is an incredibly bad idea for so many reasons, I am finding this notion incredibly entertaining.

This whole thing has stirred up quite a bit of hate and made her a laughingstock of the moment.
Do a google search on her name and there are reviews coming out completely debasing her, ans saying all kinds of nasty things - as is happening here.

But why? They are just books, they aren't even Holy books. This begs the question, "How sacred are our books?" What are your thoughts?

I think a lot of it is books with monetary value or ones that could increase in value. Completly silly to use them on something that like @spoco2 said, is going to be thrown away in a very short amount of time.

You don't see as many people getting outraged about book art because those artist are elevating the book far past something that looks like it came from Pier 1 Imports.

As far as saying nasty things, that happens whenever anyone does something stupid on the internet.

Watching her take that Xacto Knife to the binding of those books gave me roughly the same feeling as if she'd been doing it to kittens for their pretty little eyeballs.

Books are like living things. You just don't vivisect something so casually. Books are containers for ideas, and I think anyone who considers their self even a little bit intellectual would have a serious aversion to their pointless destruction.

Sure, there are a lot of copies of Twilight in the world, and sure, the world wouldn't suffer one iota by the removal of a few of them, but I still wouldn't feel right about randomly cutting up a bunch of them.

I guess it's just the principle of the thing.

This just made me see red when I fist saw it. I have always loved books and reading. I used to get most of my reading from the library, and if I fell in love with the book, I bought it.

Unfortunaterly most of my books are paperback. They do feel cheap and are uncomfortable to read, especially if they are thick. If I get a hardcover book, I either really, REALLY loved it (like my 'Lord of the Rings' set, back in the 80's), or I was eager to read it and didn't want to wait for the softcover (I admit, Harry Potters, Sookie Stackhouse and Hunger Games are some of the series that I have hardcover books).

Anyway! If you are not going to read your book more than once, get it from the library, or buy softcover. Do not buy hardcovers and then have so little of respect for them that you can just chop them up to be a storage box.

Maybe Lauren Conrad is rich enough to just buy whatever she wants and toss it away after one use. I hope not.

Books are precious.

Sometimes I look at a video like this and think, would still I be outraged if I hadn't been prepped for outrage by the title and description? I don't know. I like to think so. I've loved books since grade school. But would it have occurred to me to treat every copy as if it was sacred? Or would I have just thought, "What a waste of time" like I think of most DIY projects?
