Fails as in how? Not that Im for it or anything but Houston does have the largest port in the country. Or second largest according to wiki not to mention Beaumont and Corpus Christi which are 4th and 5th. Also we have NASA and heres a bit else we have here from wiki.

Rated as a beta world city,[6] Houston's economy has a broad industrial base in the energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, transportation, and health care sectors and is a leading center for building oilfield equipment; only New York City is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters in the city limits.[7] The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled.[8]

Also I guess we have Dallas.
I actually think we would do well.

Looking forward to the day Texas finally secedes. And then fails.

You realize NASA is part of the US Government, right? You realize you don't get to keep US Government agencies when you secede from the US, right?

You don't get to take with you the US military stationed there either, and I'm guessing a lot of those military contracting jobs are going to disappear when you become a foreign nation, especially in the immediate future when the rest of the US declares war on you for seceding.

ctrlaltbleach, I would also guess your largest ports in the country would become much less busy, as ships going to the U.S. would go elsewhere. Same with a large chunk of businesses not involved in oil or local affairs, I would think.

Texas seceding would be fantastic. Once the bloated US gov't buckles and implodes the entire economy and nation as a whole, TX will have the opportunity to start a gov't from scratch and do things right. We'll just have to build a taller fence to keep the Americans out. haha

There really is no right answer as far as I can tell. I don't know if we would be successful or not it all depends on the circumstances. For one whether or not we would do it peacefully which I highly doubt. Im very sure America needs Texas in some ways. If it would be peaceful I'm sure those govt. facilities that I mentioned would most likely be rented out to the united states. I mean you can't just move mission control now can you? Most likely it would be cheaper to rent it out from us. I doubt that all the large companies would up and leave. I think it would be the opposite and a lot of them would move down here.

If Texas did secede I cant tell you for sure it would be successful. The statement that we would fail to me is highly presumptuous. Hell if we do it and fail most likely it would be the fault of the rest of the Country. That is if the rest of the Country did not fall apart which is what I think would happen.

When they finally restore marriage to straights in Texas, it will further underline the inequality as they will be giving "new" rights to straights but denying them to gays. The US's patchwork policies on gay marriage are an embarrassment - a joke - on an international level.

secession would be interesting, not only having to deal with the angry nation to the north, but also that pesky nation to the south.
