Soccer Actors/Fakers/Divers

Some of the best actors/fakers/divers soccer has to offer.

The sport is getting destroyed by this at the top level in my opinion. These are the crazy and extreme examples but every game has players keeling over. It's their fault and it puts the referees in a bad position. One of our more controversial refs resigned after his teenage daughter got death threats. And then there is the whole issue of corruption in player transfers. I love football but at the moment I feel depressed about it.

Hey, Americans changed rugby into football, and cricket into baseball. Why don't we do something for soccer too?

Change the rules a bit here and there to make the game fair. You know, 'Americanize' it. In my opinion, if we were willing to experiment with XFL, why the hell not soccer?

"I'm not really into sports, but I seem to recall a lot of this happening in the NBA. Only instead of the players being ridiculed, people seem to think it's a normal part of the game, and whatever you can get away with is fine. Correct me if I'm wrong."

The difference is that as in that example (video link), you (the defense) are trying to display that you had position and the offense slammed into you, and so it should be an offensive foul. You tend to try and fall slightly early so you don't really get hurt by the impact of the offense, b/c otherwise you can break your nose like I did. This guy just misjudged, thought the guy was gonna run into him but didn't.

Although yes, there is plenty of other faking, to a certain degree.

I couldn't believe the extent to which diving goes on in soccer. Watching Portugal during the last world cup was especially painful. Even if these guys did get hit when they act like they did, you'd need to be a real sissy to fall on the ground and cry about it. The first team to man up and keep playing will completely catch their opponents off guard.

I think that should a player fall down writhing on the ground, apparently in terrible pain, they should be taken out of the game and made to see the medics. The refs should be allowed to decide whether or not to card the player at 'fault' but in every case the 'hurt' player should have to leave the game to be 'examined' (as a 'precaution,' of course).

In this way, if a player is truly hurt they will receive medical attention, and if not they will have removed themselves from the game nonetheless. Therefore they will have to think about taking that dive because it will mean their removal from the game.

Perhaps there could be a medical official whose job it is to decide whether a player needs an examination. If a physically fit, grown man is writhing about on the ground wailing and crying it would stand to reason that he's hurt pretty badly and should be looked at. Think along the lines of the doctor at a boxing match.

Of course, I don't know much about soccer so there are probably any number of reasons this would be a bad idea but the impression I get watching this sort of thing is that these guys are a bunch of pansies. That can't be good for the image of the sport. Either they are wimps or sore-loser drama queens.

I imagine they are for the most part fine athletes so every time a player takes a dive it reflects badly on all of them and the sport as a whole. I guess it's a rough business.

You misinterpreted me. Let me put it in a nicer way.

Ahem. There were so many pratfalls and fake injuries at the last World Cup Final game that I found the game to be utter shite. You might disagree.

P.S.-I used to like watching Soccer (futbol/football/footie/whatever you call it)
