I just don't understand the apparent upvote-anything-with-a-cat-in-it paradigm here, I guess.

I've said it before and i'll say it again Fletch - it's not what you post, it's who you know here on videosift. There are MANY jerk-circles to get any (and every) video that you post up to 10 votes.

It's just a little democracy experiment.. and we see all of political democracy's exploitable attributes mirrored here.

I think my upvote was as much for the discussion as the feature.

Non-cat people are so endlessly frustrated by cat vids. They can't appreciate the subtle details that make a cat video great, much like the subtle details of fine wine. There are plenty of banal cat vids on youtube that would never see the light of day. So let me give you a little insight into the world of cat video appreciation.

Notice the angle of the ears, the slightly miffed look in the eyes, the disconnect between the paw tapping and the nonchalant scanning about the room, not to mention the extreme cuteness of this particular cat and the silly sound effects.

Arvana has also given us the opportunity to write in morse code, which is something you rarely, if ever, get to do.

Beyond all of this is length. 20 seconds is a very small amount amount of time to ask of someone, and far less time than it takes to write a curmudgeonly comment. If this continued for 2 minutes, it would not be in the top 15. As the bard once said:
