cheesemoosays...Science. It works, bitches.
Duckman33says...You play with fire, you're gonna get burned.
rottenseedsays...Maybe it just explains that they were shitty firewalkers...fuckin poseurs.

That needs to be a t-shirt...
MaxWildersays...Now lets admit that getting yourself to walk on the coals in the first place can be a serious psychological challenge, and one might benefit from digging deep to find the courage and confidence to do it. It's just not magic, that's all.
But you know you could have figured that out just by asking them how careful they are about "preparing" the fire-walk coals. They don't just pour gas on it and strike a match. They have to burn for a certain period of time, then cool for a certain amount of time. That's enough to tell you it's not a paranormal experience right there.
antsays...MythBusters did this too.

That's right, sarzy.. no wait..

You, uh, know that it is, right?

Peroxidesays...Fox Mulder disagrees.
Peroxidesays...Dana Scully agrees.
Peroxidesays...Episode ensues.
Xaxsays...Guess those guys just need to gather more protective energy with more focused meditation. Or maybe they're just idiots.
8626says...I did that about 10 year ago with my girlfriend. It was a wonderful experience. We didn't get burned, but some of the people did. Its a good practice to overcome your natural fears.
HenningKOsays...Now don't be cruel, scientists.
12028says...Science isn't cruel but it is indifferent. For example, dT/dt = K*dT/dx^2 where T is temperature, K is thermal diffusivity and x is skin thickness. A back-of-the-envelope dimensionalization and a skin diffusivity somewhere between water and nylon gives time = (distance^2)/K. Therefore those sorry fools can walk for t=(2*10^-3 m)^2/(10^-6 m^2 s^-1) or about 4 seconds before they feel it. However, a firewalker who invokes a force field probably has a better chance of getting laid then a scientist who invokes the thermal diffusivity equation.
budzossays...No shit.

And here I thought new age crap was all about the money. But you say we can get laid if we believe in this shit? Carve out my cortex and count me in.
buzzsays...Man, I would have really liked to have heard what the firewalkers thought of their failure. Sure, the "negative energy" in the area might have impacted their ability to succeed, but it's still nice to see them squirm... or come to the realisation that they're full of shit!
carrotsays...No way! I was SURE the paranormal explanation was going to be the right one. I don't know about you guys, but I am flummoxed!
ReverendTedsays...Science works (bitches), but this isn't a proper application of scientific theory - there's no control group. Theoretically, someone who isn't a "professional firewalker" should be able to walk approximately that same distance.
yaroslavvbsays...Seems cruel -- the scientist encourages them to walk the 50 feet knowing that it will burn there feet, potentially badly

Your right.
Where is the *comedy tag?
siftbotsays...Invocations (comedy) cannot be called by Raaagh because Raaagh is not privileged - sorry.
NetRunnersays...>> ^ant:
MythBusters did this too.
Yeah, but when they did it they didn't set out to intentionally burn people.
Granted, the Mythbusters got someone burned too, but it was one of their own people, and there was a fair chance that they might not have gotten burned.
In this case, it was essentially the inevitable result of the experiement as proposed.
That's just petty, and cruel.
