Rejoice! It is over, someone just won Minecraft

Someone just won at Minecraft. We can all let it go and move on with our lives now.
No need to stay up until 05.00 on a workday and mine ever again...

impressive
there is a way to import layers of graphics to make templates or 3d objects from 2d imports, so you don't HAVE to build by hand every block. there should be ever more MC to come.

Do you know if this was built brick by brick? If so.... well... holy crap..

Bravo to the Hayao Miyazaki tribute. I'll admit I never even heard of Porco Rosso, and of the ones they show here, I've only seen Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away but always intended to see Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro...
I am sure this had to be done with external editing tools.
For those who don't follow the link the main YouTube page here are the films:
0:13 - 1:11 Laputa: Castle in the Sky - "The Girl Who Fell From the Sky"
1:14 - 1:47 My Neighbor Totoro - "The Path of Wind"
1:49 - 2:28 Howl's Moving Castle - "Stroll Through the Sky"
2:30 - 3:00 Spirited Away - "One Summer's Day"
3:03 to 3:08 Porco Rosso (his airplane)

Paybacksays...

I get the impression this wasn't just one person. More like a whole bunch of people making parts fit together by the external tools.

...and as such, there is no "winner". Please continue playing. Kthxbye.

It's very impressive, but I'm just slightly disappointed that my favorite, Nausicaa, didn't make it in there. (But then I guess it would be harder to work in, because even though there's more material for it than all the other movies combined, none of it is quite as architecturally recognizeable.)

the same as using videosift

I doubt that.

I'm just wondering what the next step is after creating such a vast and obviously complex virtual world. Is there a game to be played after that point that utilises those assets?

The game is that you define the game, so in a sense you are right. On videosift we 'play' within certain rules (as in Minecraft) - the difference is that Minecrafts rules seem to only really be limited by imagination and time.

It's Legos.
