Rachel Maddow: Buyer's Remorse

Maddow explores an interview CBS conducted with Congressman Steve Buyer. It's not pretty.

I -do- believe his claim that his core beliefs don't change. He's always believed in selling influence, and sees nothing wrong with it...that much is clear.

For that reason alone, and completely ignoring the fact that the rest of his record only supports this conclusion, in no way should he be allowed into a position of power.

Republicans? Lying?

Come on, to be a republican in congress, in the USA, one must have the following criteria:

A) Be white (cus it *is* the master race, right?)
B) Be rich (cus it costs money to buy off people's morals)
C) Be old (a young republican is known as cannon fodder)
D) Demand Democrats be held accountable to their words and actions, as long as Republicans are not.
E) Your political stance is strictly, rigidly, and concretely, conservative.
F) Lie about things so well, that you surprise yourself, when you tell the truth.

Yeah, I say let republicans keep this crap up. Next elections come by, and we'll have a few less republicans in congress.

You may be right. But we have a system which, by it's nature, weeds out anyone who is unwilling to sell their influence. You can't run a successful congressional campaign without large corporate donors. And corporations are not stupid enough to make investments that will never pay off.

I suppose the scandal here is that by setting up that foundation it looks like he's gone beyond taking campaign donations to taking more direct bribes.

How the hell did this weasel get elected to congress?

After seeing the likes of Bachman, Foxx, et al. do you really have to ask? It seems like the primary qualification for congressional election is a pulse. No brain cells needed.
