Up until just after the 1960's children in our schools were taught that it's a wonderful thing that we massacre'd the Native Population. There was even a little boy in a cartoon telling everyone how he wishes he was there killing them when they would wait to the men went out hunting and massacre the women and children.

Also in the 60's there was an exhibit in a museum where children could play on a Blackhawk helicopter and fire on a Vietnamese village.

I went to elementary school in the mid eighties. I was paddled all the time for calling students names, being late, etc.

at the time, I dreaded being paddled again. As long as it's not done without cause, IMHO corporal punishment is fine.

I was whipped with a leather belt for acting out. I still acted out because in my mind it was wrong that I was whipped cause it's wrong to whip people to get them to do what you want them to do. It's ok some kids like you need it in order to become fine indoctrinated specimens.

One of the first things I ever really learned about people was that nobody had the right to inflict themselves on me in a way that I didn't wish them to, and I'd fight them if I had to. If a kid has fucked up somewhere, they need to be punished and have it explained to them, but physical abuse being applied by default is fucking disgusting. The sort of school environment you describe is one without compassion, desperately trying to snap children into the correct, receptive, placid intellectual posture. Expecting people to act well because they fear the lash... Fuck them.

It's great, and it's necessary, that people in all cultures are capable of being self-aware, but I don't think it's at all important or relevant to what's being taught, and done, in Islamic schools in The United Kingdom. Say what you want about the UK - its faults are many - but it's not a 13th century culture. What's being demonstrated here is repulsive and poisonous, and not enough people are taking this seriously.*

Sadly, although deep down I knew that the title of this video was sarcastic, I was hoping I would be surprised and find that it was actually a school of enlightened, modern Muslims who taught love for others. Sigh. This world baffles me.

What this article fails to show is that this is a Shia Muslim school. People who equate what's happening in Egypt to this are sadly mistaken. Egypt Muslims are Sunni, and there is not a single Sunni nation that is ruled by a religious body today. By definition, Sunnis have a secular government - that's the reason why Muslims/Moors occupied Spain for 700 years and yet didn't bother converting anyone there as proselytism was and still is illegal. I think people should start mentioning whether they are looking at Shia or Sunni Islam when they make their statements for those two sects are at polar opposites and do not sympathize with each other (See Iraq-Iran war).
