I'm amazed Obama would want to shake that fucker's hand at all, but I guess he's a better man than I (or at least a smarter politician). That's the difference between Obama and I though; he will serve all Americans, whereas I would want to gas those who were weak/stupid/evil enough for vote for McCain.

I'll be the first to jump on McCain when he fucks up (all the time) but I'm going to have to disagree with this post-- it just looked as if McCain was introducing Cindy and he didn't see Obama's hand (even McCain wouldn't be stupid enough to turn down a handshake)

What was with the teenage "tap him on the far shoulder to see if I can make a fool of him" move? Is anyone else seeing that?

What was weirder in my opinion is that Cindy didn't shake anyone's hand in the audience. She stood behind John, stiff as a board, looking like she didn't want to touch those filthy commoners.

Actually, I don't blame her on that point.

Then she and John took off and the Obamas got minutes worth of free air time looking great and shaking everyone's hand. Big mistake for the McCains, if you ask me.

I don´t see McCain refusing his hand at all, it looks to me more like Obama has manners and went to shake the ladies hand first when he realized they were both behind him...

But I think the pat on the back might have been McCain congratulating him on still being ahead in the polls after this debate...

Looks like he really didn't even see that outstretched hand. He wasn't looking down at it at all. And I think even Mccain would be savvy enough to know not to show poor sportsmanship like that.

So, what, he can't shake his hand again? Honestly, I think that makes it worse. Like the beginning of the debate, the very end is when he has to shake his hand. It's obviously on camera and part of the "show." Taken with McCain not being able to look at him during the first debate, his refusal to talk with him a couple of weeks ago on the Senate floor, and some of the other incidents they've had over the last few years, this refusal to shake his hand is a true indicator of McCain contempt for Obama, IMO. He really doesn't like him for some reason.

if you don't even see a man with an outstretched hand, that says a lot. it's not an excuse, it's evidence against you either way, bodylanguagewise. These mistakes don't just happen.

maybe he's just fucking old and can't see things / remember to do things, eh? Let him off the hook here, give him a shot at the top job?

I find that VERY hard to accept... didn't 'see' the outstretched hand... That is such a customary response... and really an expectation... so much so that the broadcasters were even commenting on how long it had taken them to do so... and that they didn't believe it had taken place...

Is it really possible McCain is THAT unaware?... i find that unlikely...

This is the incident on the Senate floor I mentioned.

October 1 — As the two shared the Senate floor tonight for the first time since they won their party nominations, Obama stood chatting with Democrats on his side of the aisle, and McCain stood on the Republican side of the aisle.

So Obama crossed over into enemy territory.

He walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: “Good to see you.”

Obama got the message. He shook hands with Martinez and Lieberman — both of whom greeted him more warmly — and quickly beat a retreat back to the Democratic side.

Sorry, but I have to call media bullshit on this one. I'm extremely anti-McCain/Palin (they are just going to be 8 more years of Bush).

HOWEVER, that video does not smack of a snub to me.

1. McCain pats Barak on the back.
2. There are some half-assed attempts to make contact on both sides, it seems that NEITHER of them are too excited about the prospect of shaking hands.
3. McCain seems to make gestures to "introduce" his wife.

God I am so sick of politics in general. I feel that the media is probably responsible for most of the misunderstandings and false reporting. Now don't get me wrong, I still feel that Chris Rock said it best:

"vote for the guy with one house"


Edit: just as I suspected, there is now a video from slightly earlier showing them hugging and shaking hands. This is just out of context and BS as usual.

Edit 2: am I nuts or did the title of this video change? I could have sworn that the no-handshake was in the title before...

What lie? Obama extended his hand to him and McCain didn't shake it. So he shook it a few minutes before when he knew the cameras were on him. How does that change what everyone can see and judge for themselves in this video?

Like I said, people can view the video and make their own judgments. Because your judgment on McCain's actions is different from or the same as others does not make it a lie. He shook his hand a few minutes before — he didn't here. People can take from that what they wish.

The video is obviously not a fake. It's not a lie.

I agree with previous posts;
Obama was like, "Thanks for stayed fairly civil (lets shake hands that we both understand that this is probably hard with the hired help you've got running your side)"

and McCain was just going, "Uh, hey, you've met my sugar-mamma Cindy before, right? (I'd rather not shake hands more than I need to; I'm trying be angry at you)"

and Obama was like, "oh, hey Cindy, good to see you (I was just being cordial to your husband, but I see that he's really sticking to the advice of those that got Bush in the Whitehouse, and only being civil because its hard for him to be as mean as they want)".

wouldn't it be awkward to shake hands with a guy you've been in the same room with for hours?
this is being blown out of proportion, and all of the obama drones are getting what they want.

These events arnt planned out, (clearly as you saw in the handshake video), obama felt a tap on his shoulder and apparently figured it was someone wanting to shake his hand. It wasn't untill after the fact that he reached out that obama was introduced by mccain.

If the title was "McCain & Obama have an awkward moment" it might be different. Right now it says "McCain Not Shaking Obama's Hand at the Debate" which he did, just not in this clip.

In any event, congrats on what will surely be top 15 based on title alone.

Man, read all the comments before watching the video. McCain and Obama weren't even facing each other, Obama was turning around.

If anything, I would have said, "Obama backhand slaps McCain's wife in the gut after debate, proving again all black men are misogynistic AND violent!"
