Jon Stewart Post 9-11 Monologue

stark23xsays...

Wow. If only he still remembered that day. Jon made THE single most passionate speech of ANYONE that week. It still hits me right *there*. I just wish he remembered it.

antsays...

Good post! I heard about this famous speech from him. Finally, saw the whole thing.

How about the other talk shows like Jay Leno, David Letterman's, Conan's, etc.? I heard those were emotional as well.

You're either wrong if you're saying that because he hasn't given a free ride to our government. If anything, it's very clear he hasn't. For anyone who'd say such a thing, it's more likely you never grasped what he was talking about in the first place. Patriotism -is- questioning, and liberties are either used or they're taken away. Theoretical liberties can be found in many constitutions around the world, of which a much smaller percentage actually allow you to recite them out loud.

If you're referring to something else, you should be more specific stark23x.

I remember watching that show. I've seen at least 70% of all Daily Show episodes before and since. I believe that Jon has always embodied the sentiments he shared that night. The whole concept of grieving without despairing is central to what he does. That's exactly why he and millions of American's like him can feel deeply about the tragedy of 9-11 and still not fall victim to the fear-mongering of corrupt politicians.

Kruposays...

Damn powerful.

About 10 seconds before the end you hear this solitary cough which reminds you of how rapt the viewers are to his speech; that momentary 'gap in silence' has quite a little kick.

Those who blindly swallow any swill that is fed to them by the mainstrem propoganda machine will think that John doesn't remember the way he felt on 9/11/2001. They feel it is somehow wrong to take those to task who actually perpetrated this event (not boxcutter weilding Arabian lunatics),those who had the most to gain. There is so much information and disinformation on the Internet, but it is our duty to sift through it with an open mind so that we can become aware of the real truth and insist on justice for the real culprits. John Stewart is excellent and real and I thank you for posting this video.

I thank you for sending this video sfjocko. To think the entirety of the war in iraq was in those to two towers...i remember that day like yesterday. Very compelling mate, much graditude. And let us not forget those who gave there life for those trapped in The World Trade Centers. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his own life for his friends-John 15:13" I'll try to find out what Eisonhower said before Normandy. Again much graditude sfjocko.

sowatsurpointdudesays...

ok i found wat Dwight D. Eisenhower said " History does not long entrust the care of the weak or the timid." i jst felt like this was a right thing to say to a nation in chaos with that disaster..Iraq..and Isreal..its all rapping up..its coming very close..anytime now..anytime...

some americans are so blody stupid i cnt belive it.

Goofball_Jonessays...

Westy, do you go out of your way to misspell so often or are you really that way? Granted, I'm not the bastion of good grammar nor should I throw stones at someone else, but come on! Whatever you were trying to say was totally lost because I just couldn't get through it.

messengersays...

Don't be so harsh. westy is a reminder of exactly what Jon Stewart is saying: not to despair. Think of the feeling of resentment you have towards westy's comment, really feel it, and then compare it with the feeling you would have if he did not have the freedom to say it. So don't despair, and be grateful for westy.

And that is the reason we win against these assholes who hit us. He got back in the saddle and did his part again. Like him or hate him: by God, he got back up. So did most of us, and those simple acts were all it took to show that we could come out on top. Thank you for this video.
