During a rehearsal practice session with Hydrick the day before the actual taping Randi had the session, unknown to Hydrick, videotaped, with a highly sensitive microphone aimed and focused at Hydrick's mouth, and with the amplifier turned up far beyond normal voice level. Randi's microphone recorded monumental blasts of air every time the page moved or the pencil turned.

There's a history of this sort of thing that predates Randi... Houdini was famous for travelling the country, performing his feats and exposing mentalists and mediums. But don't misunderstand me, this is awesome. For a minute I was wondering if the guy was just going to say that it was impossible under these conditions, or if he was going to try his normal way and disturb the plastic pieces. But of course, he needs to refuse to do it, because he wants to continue his "career".

The thing I was thinking while watching the first part was... so what if it was true? He trained for years and years with a master and he can turn a book's page or make a pencil move an inch, after a minute or so of sustained concentration? Um, ok.

Anyways, James Randi has now raised his awards to one million dollars and has taken a more offensive approach as well as more rules on his screening process. He plans to publicly challenge several proclaimed psychics this April to come forth and prove themselves, including Uri Geller.

Going after Edwards would pretty much be a waste of time, there really is no secret to how Edwards operates. Cold reading techniques, spying on the audience before the show and while they're in line, probably the occaisonal plant in the audience, etc.

I like when this Randi dude exposes the faith healers and people like that. However, Hydrick is simply a magician, even though he professes not to be. We all know it's magic deep down, its just entertaining to watch and allow ourselves to fake-believe in it. It's fun. Exposing magicians is just not fun. It's like a debbie downer kinda thing. It's all for fun and entertainment, I think, until nut jobs use God and whatnot to con people into throwing money at them. Expose the hell outta those guys.
