newtboysays...The 5 deadly venoms (awesome crazy old school Kung Fu) calls this toad style.
These demonstrations are always impressive to me.

Stormsingersays...Gimmicks and trickery, just like levitation. He/they are con-artists, nothing more.
newtboysays...Only if you consider WWF 'wrestlers' con-artists. I see them as performers. Maybe I'm wrong and they claim it's all real (well, so do wrestlers when in character), but it's not like you can't see the guy pressing against the drill with his hand instead of his head. It's not as impressive as they 'claim', but is still impressive for what it actually is (well, some of it is, some is just totally silly, like wrestling).

spawnflaggersays...someone should remind him how Bruce Lee died.
Stormsingersays...Funny you should use that comparison...because I do consider the WWF to be a con-game. Possibly because I was raised by people that honestly believed it was real.
I'll pull back my statement if it turns out that they don't claim this to be real...I don't believe I've ever actually heard one of these guys make a statement that it is, or is not just an illusion.

Mordhaussays...If he was attempting to levitate or talk to the dead, I would agree. However, the human body is capable of many things that we would consider impossible. Consider small women lifting cars off their children, etc.
The brain and nervous system put limiters on our body to protect it, this is fact, however with training or via fight or flight response, it is possible to temporarily override those natural limitations to perform amazing feats.
Yes, the drill was not the right type of bit to go through flesh and he may have been pushing against it, but to not break the skin and for him to resist the pain, that is amazing. The title of the video does not mean I believe in some mystical technique that allows the body to resist damage, it was more of a joke. I do believe that through years of conditioning and training that this person has managed some feats that you or I would be seriously injured by.

Stormsingersays...Please note that you -never- see that drill bit even touch his skin, much less turn against it. And if you believe that's just a coincidence, then I've got some great land in Florida to sell you.
It's simple camera trickery. The -only- question left is, do they claim it is real, or do they just call it a performance. That's the difference between a con-man and a stage magician.

Mordhaussays...So the laying on spears is also camera trickery, as is the metal bar bending, and the steel rod. You are picking one element and using it to advance your claim that all the elements are false, just as you chose one portion of my entire comment to focus upon. The fact is that the human body, in all of its parts, can do some amazing things if you hone it to perfection.

Stormsingersays...I agree, that is indeed what I am doing. If they are faking one item, I believe that is enough to establish a claim that they are con-artists. Because if they're not con-artists, then they would not be faking any of it. That logic 101. Also note that they may not be claiming this is all real, in which case my objection disappears. I haven't had a chance to research that particular question yet. (But I do intend to do so in the next day or two, and I'll report back if anyone cares)
That said, I don't disagree with your statement that the human body is capable of far more than what we usually see. This just appears to be too much to swallow for me. Your mileage may vary. It's not like we're ever going to find out the "truth" of the matter, so discussion is all we've got.

lucky760says...I don't blame @Stormsinger for being skeptical, but there's no trickery about a pointed spear pushing with great force into your neck. I've seen scientific examinations of a monk doing the same kinds of things and there was no fakery nor anything else to explain it away.
The human mind and body together are truly capable of seemingly impossible feats. Everyone can control a lot more of the body with the mind than most people think.
My one example (which is obviously incomparable to withstanding physical trauma) is my ability to cure my hiccups using nothing but brain power. Like most, I used to have extended fits of hiccups from time to time, and no trick ever worked (spoonful of sugar, drinking from other side of cup, holding breath, getting scared, etc.). I finally started mentally controlling my diaphragm to immediately stop my hiccups and now they're just a thing of the past for me.
lucky760says...Oh, and *promote for the discussion at the very least.

Mystic95Zsays...Bahahahah yeah the drill bit part was fake as hell. I guarantee in the time that drill was spinning I could have split his skull....
