How to Deal with Cops Attempting to Search Your Vehicle

Things you should know, because you where pulled over for speeding does not mean that they have the right to search your car.

However if you are felony speeding, they can arrest you, but they still do not have the right to search your car.

Lock your doors, plead the 5th, and never answer any questions you do not want to.

IMO, if you stand up like this, you'll just get harassed and an American cop would most likely step over the line just because they can.

A real solution would be to organize a group, create a bill and collect supporters from government that puts county-based, buddy-buddy law enforcement in bed for good.

Cops are immediately dicks, unless you're a cop, mar-gun. Especially in Arizona. No offense though.

Maybe if you give them a reason to be. I;ve had plenty of interactions with police officers (both from speeding and for other non-legal reasons) and not once were any of them dicks.

Maybe you ought to look at the way you interact with them and see if it could use an adjustment.

General rule of thumb. If a cop isn't getting their way, they will raise their voice and behave aggresively towards you. The specific intent being to provoke a reaction from you thus giving them probable cause.

The Jedi mind trick is to remain calm and collected,do not reflect their aggression.

MG, are you saying this never happens?

Cops are not always dicks. Most of them are professional and courteous. However, some of them are dicks. And this video could help prevent you from being taken advantage of.

Know your rights. Stay calm, do not answer questions, do not react if provoked, and do not give them anything they don't have the right to take.

Hey, just so you are prepared: the cops are more ignorant of the law than you. Even if you do everything 100% right, they WILL slap cuffs on you and they WILL search your vehicle without your permission.

Get ready to stand your ground with proper court procedure, including presumptive letters, affidavits, and counter suits as you fight your case.

A lot of cops have serious power-trip issues going on. As long as you act polite to them, you'll usually not provoke them into full asshat mode. Of course, if you don't stick up for your rights, that's sometimes just as bad. A Texas state trooper said he'd arrest my dad unless my dad gave him his SSN number (which I believe a citizen isn't required to do), and I've been held at shotgun-point by campus police at UC San Diego.

soulmonarchsays...

I can't vote for that.

If an officer pulls you over for speeding, you just take your ticket and leave. Cops are only dicks if you give them a reason to be. Sitting in stony silence when they ask why they pulled you over is one good way to provoke a bad reaction. If you simply admit you were going to fast right off the bat, they won't bother trying to get you on any other charge... they just let you go.

Police officers are people too. Treat them with respect, and they will do the same for you. I've never gotten out of a ticket by being recalcitrant, but I HAVE gotten out of several for being honest and polite.

...plus, don't drive down the road doing drugs and driving too fast. That's just dumb.
