Honest Dark Knight Rises Trailer

Seriously. This movie has MAJOR plot holes.
Sarzysays...

I'm really not sure what it is about this movie that inspires such pedantic nitpickery. Any big blockbuster can be nitpicked to death if you really want to. There are just as many plot holes in The Avengers, and everyone treated that like it was the second coming of Jesus.

spoco2says...

It's a problem when you're left during the movie going 'waaah? What? Why would they, who would do? what the?' If it makes sense during the movie, and it's only afterwards you might pick holes, then it doesn't matter nearly as much. Suspension of disbelief, this movie did not have it.

The time stuff was the biggest problem for me, the weird pacing of three months of time disappearing into nothing, and apparently the people of Gotham doing absolutely nothing during that time right up until the last day.

And the bit of ALL the police being sent into the tunnels was just insane.

Well, the city was being run by a crazy warlord with an army of machine gun-toting thugs and criminals, so I'd say that the majority of Gotham were probably holed up in their houses. I know that's what I'd be doing.

And it wasn't ALL of the police in the tunnels. There were obviously a bunch of them in Blake's underground resistance, and the rest were probably hiding out like Matthew Modine.

EvilDeathBeesays...

Wasn't going to upvote until the Red Letter Media guys appeared. The constant nit-pickery of DKR gets on my tits. It's a character driven movie! None of the "plot holes" ever got in the way of enjoying it for me

criticalthudsays...

How did the police emerge from the tunnels clean, shaved, and ready for battle after 3 months without sunlight?
Did neither the mercs or cops understand the concept of "cover"?
Why would the detective ask the kids to run door to door and evacuate the city with about 12 minutes left?
Why did all the guys in the pit of despair help everyone try to climb out of the place except for a young, innocent girl, whom they apparently wished very dead?
With raw materials up the wazoo, why is it no one in prison could figure out how to make a grappling hook?
How did the mercs manage to pour explosive concrete on already-built bridges?
How did Bane floss?
and ain't it just a dick move to let your friends think you're dead?

I'll field this. Dark Knight rises came on the tails of the two best comic book movies for one of the best comic book characters ever made. Batman Begins was amazing when you compare it to Batman movies of old and then Dark Knight was probably the greatest action movie ever made, it was incredible.

The bar was raised super high, and people had a problem with the last movie. I think it honestly wasn't tight enough...Dark Knight is tight as a drum, Rises simply isn't. It meanders, it's just unbelievable at times, it doesn't handle some of it's new characters well at all. Although there's moments in that movie that are great, I feel it's second half really failed.

What I can see is there was simply too much they wanted to do...so guess what cut it into two movies. One is Dark Knight Falls and then Dark Knight Rises. I would've loved it, hell Hobbit is suddenly 3 movies so don't tell me Nolan couldn't make this stuff into two, it would've ROCKED.

!SPOILERS!

The ending wasn't handled well either but the argument to change it is weird too. Some people say Alfred should see Batman and Catwoman and just smile, and we never see them. To me if Nolan did that it would've been hacky and exactly the same as the ending to Inception.

As a whole, this trilogy is better than the original Star Wars Trilogy, based on story and characters alone. It's MUCH better you don't know anything if you disagree. Also just like Return of the Jedi is a disappointment (More Ewoks MUST DIE!) so is Rises, yet I'll still watch it.

I had a problem with this in just a conceptual way. First of all there's no way in hell the American government would let that stand for even a day, they'd destroy the entire fucking city and have no problem doing it. Which makes me wonder, couldn't we have it be two movies and have Bane own the city without it being a hostile takeover with guns and outward aggression? I mean Bane would be the strong man absolutely, but his handler would've done better to create a criminal utopia instead and try to drive it into the ground through corruption. You could make allusions to Chicago or Baltimore, it could get seriously deep.

Spreading it over two movies would be essential to tell a more complex and weaving tale. It would've been the greatest series of movies ever made if they had done it the hard way, I think they were just trying to get it done or something.

A pity then that there are absolutely no memorable characters of note.
This was in no way a character-driven movie. If it was you'd focus on one or two people and the story would be simplified. This was all about the plot which asks the characters to flit around doing stupid things.

I still don't get how the Nolan who gave us Memento ended up producing these awful, bland, poorly constructed action movies.

I used to laugh at Schumacher and Burton but their more fantastical imaginings of Batman work better. This is a man dressed as a bat with a stupid voice. To try to frame this "realistically" in a film doesn't work. And particularly not when you constantly take the liberties shown in this video. And the second film with that laughable cell phone tracking tech just underlined how lazy and poor these films were.

I'll say the first half of Batman Begins was good but then veered sharply away from the comics which inspired it. In fact the main problem with the trilogy is that ripping off Frank Miller and trying to mesh that with a more Hollywood style sensibility just didn't work.

I'm pretty sure they sent just about every copper they could. I just couldn't believe I was seeing that, it was just so obviously stupid.

Man shut up you don't know dick about film. Probably jerk off to Tree of Life and talk about how much of a genius Terrance Malick is. You're gonna sit there and say with a straight face that the Schumacher and Burton Batmans were better?! Just walk away now you very very dumb man.

I think we have to wonder how much control the director actually has. I'm betting that the MONEY behind the film, which has the eventual final say on everything, has a slightly different interest in the final project - different than say, the amazing artists who create the awesomeness.

Hence you have people's financial expectations intruding upon the work of art. As a result, you get some degree of a movie designed to appeal to a very broad audience. And much of that audience is just fine with more stunts or CGI, and less plot or character development.

I'll say it again, the best thing that ever came out of Schumacher's Batman & Robin is this:

ChaosEnginesays...

I unashamedly loved this movie. I was vaguely aware of plot holes, but I really didn't give a fuck as I was simply enjoying myself too much.

Contrast that with Prometheus. I went expecting a good movie and after the frickin *opening scene* I was worried. By the halfway point, the sheer stupidity of the characters and the story had me rooting for everyone to die (and there wasn't even a central memorable villian to get behind!)

There were only a few things in Nolans Batman trilogy I didn't like: the over the top voice, and the fight scenes. (Batman is supposed to be one of the greatest martial artists in the world, and we didn't get one decent fight)

You and I are in complete agreement on DKR. Another sign of 12-21-2012

You know what, I grew up reading comic books and they're all so stupidly filled with stupid shit, does it really matter? Batman standing atop a skyscrapper is one of the prime examples of why he is so AWESOME. FUCK. Show me any Batman media that isn't silly and full of made up nonsense and I'll be a Superman fan instead. Go watch Ghost World, it's about as realistic as comic book movie adaptations go. A dude that dresses up like a bat is not just something that villains laugh about -- IT'S SILLY.
