Looks a little lame. I'll be glad when the latest spate of superhero pablum has exhausted itself and we can get back to real, quality SF.

What do I consider real, quality SF you ask? There are so many smart speculative fiction books just dying to be made - but here's some movies that I think are worth your time:

Contact - Still great
Dark City - awesome noire SF
Moon - small budget, but doesn't treat you like a 12-year-old
Knowing - Not a masterpiece, but still pretty good

Thank you for your time.

I don't exactly agree with Dag on the "let's stop making super hero movies" thing... but yeah, I also think it looks lame. The CGI looks terrible (particularly his suit and mask), and even the acting isn't good. And Hal Jordan is not a goofy character. And Blake Lively's acting... just seemed terrible.

I want more super hero movies, but I want them to be made properly.

Looks far more promising than 'Thor' as inferred by the hammer at the end of Iron Man 2. Meh

yep, suit = meh. I thought it'd be more... like cloth... not shiny. The eye mask is terrible. Probably would have been better if it was, again, cloth or maybe makeup.

Promising, maybe. Has potential.... for epic fail. Alas, this looks like it'll score 2.7 to 5 out of 10.

And someone please tell me why oh why is there someone like a sidekick in there? Can't it be just... him... and his journey to find himself as a new GL?

Lastly, I'd rather watch the animated First Flight movie than this.

how sad that a fake green lantern trailer appears more interesting than the actual movie:

i love ryan reynolds but after seeing this trailer nathan fillon just seemed more..right.
and now after seeing the trailer of the actual movie i am more convinced than ever that fillon would have been a better choice.
lets hope that they rushed this trailer out and the CGI is nowhere near completion and that they didnt make hal jordan a misogynist goofball.

and DAG..you liked "knowing"?...ewwww..

@dag I haven't seen Knowing(Nic Cage? srsly?) or Moon, but I'll agree wholeheartedly about Dark City. Contact was cool if you're 14, but to each his own.

I'd also add:

The Thirteenth Floor
Gattaca

They both ask questions about our reality/values and reflect on them in some interesting ways.

As for this movie? Looks like your average popcorn flick hero movie that Hollywood's been trying to cash in on since Superman 2.

Also, if you liked Contact, you might enjoy Stargate

I'm still waiting for Runelords (David Farland/Wolverton) to be made into a movie - Unfortunately it looks like the funding dried up. (??) Still Waiting though...
-- and yes, it's more fantacy than Sci/fi but then I like them both.

See, when I read that I hear " .. you like Nicolas Cage ... ewwww"

Knowing is a great, under-appreciated film by a serious director - hampered only by the reputation of its over-exposed leading actor.

Pardon me for being patronizing, but when you reach a certain age you may judge a film on its merits rather than the "en vogue" status of its cast.

PS. Patronizing means to talk down to someone in a condescending way - like they're a child. Now run along.

Maybe you saw Contact when you were 14, but there's nothing juvenile about the movie. It's full of big ideas and based on Sagan's best arguments for the existence of extra-terrestrial life. It's Science Fiction at it's best - inspiring, though-provoking, and able to move people to do more real science.

ouch..i just got tagged...
i happen to like nic cage but i didnt care for the movie.
maybe my humor was coming from a more familiar vantage point.
i stand corrected.
