Folded Man Stands Up Straight After 28 Years

A man suffered from a form of ankylosing spondylitis so severe that his upper body folded onto his thighs.

Three parts of his body were ‘connected’ – his chin to his chest, his breastbone to his pubic bone, and his face to his thigh bone.

After undergoing four operations at Shenzhen University General Hospital, in which his bones were literally broken and reconstructed, he finally stood straight – after 28 years.

So, I'm puzzled. Health care in China is actually hard to access, to my understanding--free, but hard to access. So--how did he get to the hospital and get into the treatment queue? Happy he did, just curious

I have AS. This video is an extreme example of what can happen with this disease. It hurt my soul just to watch it. Most people (like me) just experience back pain, inflammation, and maybe some relatively mild fusion compared to what you see here.

I feel for the guy, and really happy to see his resolution.

You know what; I'm kind of clueless; the answer was right in front of me---the 28 years.
Thanks---

@SFOGuy Damn, he just had to wait 28 years.

You have to bend over backwards to get healthcare early.

I mean, it is a great story, but it feels like propaganda. The shot where the doctor is on the phone after the one surgery just feels so scripted.

Probably some gov't official found out about him and thought he'd be a good propaganda piece of China's "amazing" healthcare system.

This video is by South China Morning Post, now owned by Alibaba Group...So ya, highly likely it's more of a propaganda rather than a human story.
