dotdudesays...Description:
A comedy that examines the health risks involved in the fast food industry and its environmental and social consequences as well.
Farhad2000says...Based on the book Fast Food Nation : The Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser.
I recommend the book over the movie, since the movie is not a documentary.
hojusays...they should show the REAL footage of this stuff - the animations don't tell 1/10th of the story. Meat eating destroys animals, destroys the environment, and worst of all, it destroys your health. Read the China Study. Each burger is another bite towards death. In the end, you will pay for the suffering you are inflicting.
Farhad2000says...Clearly we like killing ourselves because meat has been the staple of our diet ohhh since forever?
joedirtsays...I'm not sure why this is NSFW, but awesome animation. Best treatment of political cause I have seen.
rembarsays...I prefer steaks, personally. And yes, of course animals are conscious to some degree as they're being slaughtered. In the words of one of my old philosophy professors: "The fear makes them taste GOOD."
Mmmmmm...
Upvote for a good cause, in spite of PETA propaganda and their mindless zombies. Carnivores, you morons. Charles Darwin hates you.
obscenesimiansays...Although I do agree that Fast food and industrialized food are in general horrible for this nation, and the planet, I dislike this trailer.
The not so subtle grossouts, and the appeal to our emotions with the doe eyed calf / squashed bunny make me want to poke the eyes out of a baby seal just to spite the holier than thou PETA freak who thinks this kind of crap is acceptable. Must be readin from the same PR book as Ann Coulter.
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
How else to get the message across obsceneimian - you can can ridicule the messenger, but you can't deny it's the truth. There really are doe-eyed calfs out there being separated from their moms as they go to the slaughter.
The fact is that the "productization" of meat into little plastic shrink wrap packs has led to a complete emotional disconnect as to what meat really is.
We eat the blood infused muscle tissue of other mammals.
thecosmicshamesays...Absolutely we eat it. Without doing so I sincerely doubt we could have ensured our survival up to this point in time, I personally believe it has been essential to the development of the technological culture that allows us to spend time "sifting" through these little amusing tidbits online.
You are absolutely correct, dag--people don't seem to realize what we are doing. I think that if you eat meat, you should hunt, at least once. Perhaps we can evolve ourselves to be vegetarians in the long run, but for now, it seems prudent to accept our nature as omnivores, at least from an evolutionary perspective.
Regardless of all that, fast food is disgusting. Upvote for truth
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Most vegetarians would take issue with your implication that meat eating is necessary for our survival, cosmicshame.
The fact is, humans can survive quite well on a vegetarian diet, and millions do.
lordnullsays...while millions do survive on a vegatarian diet, it is easier for our bodies to process certain nutrients out of meat than it is out of plants. That is, however, besides the point.
This video did not come off as 'don't eat meat,' it was a review of a specific industry, that of fast food. The solution is actually quite simple: eat better than McDonalds.
joedirtsays...WTF! What does processed meat products, like happy burgers, have to do with "it is easier for our bodies to process certain nutrients out of meat than it is out of plants"...
Do you think hotdogs are *easy* for your body to process? Do you think McBurgers are better, with seaweed, preservatives, who-knows-what-else... Do you think TacoHell is using quality meat products? Don't you think it is parts of an animal you would ever eat.. all ground up.
I think that is the point, not "don't eat meat"... And of you want to talk about our evolutionary history, it isn't meat as much as bone marrow, that got up the big brains we currently have. So, when was the last time you ate bone marrow?
cybrbeastsays...Vegetarians have a real hard time obtaining enough vitamin B12, the only reliable source of this vitamin is meat.
conansays...blablabla, i stopped eating meat 13 years ago and i may be healthier and fitter than you ever were or will be cybrbeast.
obscenesimiansays...Dag, I am not attacking the messenger, I am critiquing the message in the trailer. I don't think the tone is effective.
If all the vegetarians and vegans like it, and all the hamburger swilling fat kids and soccer moms don't care or hate it, It is a pointless waste of time. I think the goal is to change the food industry and the health of the nation, not make a trailer that appeals to the audience who already has the message.
Farhad2000says...But it's it only recently through technology that a proper vegan lifestyle could be enjoyed?
It's a nice choice that people in the 1st world can make and make noise about... it disgusts me that this is an issue when there are people who can't get anything to eat. So sock it to both camps.
brnzsays...I liked the original documentary the guy did. Depicting what would happen if you lived off of Mc D's for 30 days opened my eyes. But - in the end? I have but one life to enjoy. If it means a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese is the answer to my enjoyment - so be it.
And I'm sure just about ANY third world country (say like N. Korea) would LOVE to have the ability to complain about this shit.
Amazing - we live in a "free" country - if you don't like eating it - then DON'T. I'm tired of the "whining about corporate greed" groups that are "trying to make a difference". What difference are they making when you find out the groups usually doing the whining are just trying to get you to purchase their 'healthier' products? My guess is that veggie growers want us all to become vegetarians while they continue to gene splice, over fertilize, over pesticize, wax, and artificially color fruits and vegetables to make them more appealing to the mass public? Which btw are picked by immigrant growers who are payed below minimum wage in slave-like coniditions - then usually deported back to Mexico. Who in the end is the bigger con?
In the end you'll find that if their is a coroporation in business - its only watching out for #1 - themselves. They are in it to make money PERIOD. It is up to you as a consumer and a voter to make the changes happen.
Kruposays...Amusingly this thread has one of the nastiest grudge matches of comments/arguments I've seen in a while.
Then again I'm down to sifting once a week it seems - why must Real Life impose itself on me so!
drichsays...Most of points made in this trailer are probably better read in this frontline script on 'Modern Meat':
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/meat/etc/script.html
Also, I find it backwards to mostly buy and consume the muscle mass when most of the nutrient is in the organs.
viewer_999says...Egads, meat, food, spit, blah blah blah.
What about the fact that in the very first scene the dork is playing with his iPod? Is *everything* anymore about making more money for Apple? That's what bothers ME about it!

sirexsays...its a bit late in the day to try appealing to people's morales. I'm eating it if its cute or not. Hell, if i was desperate i'd scrape it off the road and eat it. Personally, if you care about the animals feelings, id rather let someone who knows what their doing kill it than let me at it with a bread knife.
edit: i should add that i rarely eat "fast food" (i.e: almost never) but i eat meat at home and out alot.
legacy0100says...This Animation doesn't provide facts about things it's just 'an opinion' at this point.
Provide numbered figures, documents, facts, reports, pictures etc etc and I'll consider this.
Taking a handful of info and making a generalized image of something is called stereotyping.
Plus, this video was more to do with 'anti-corporation' or 'anti-big business' image than the actual food.
It's convincing, but I don't believe it till I see some legit references.
