awkward moment in school

For once, I actually agree with bobknight33.

We should start by removing No Child Left Behind and not only incentivizing schools with scaring them by removing their budgets if their kids don't pass their crappy standardized tests.

Let the districts run their own schools and pick their curriculum.

Only when you get rid of / government / bureaucratic run education will you enable writing like that.

Give schools back to the local community and the parents.

It's a bit simplistic and hyperbolic, don't you think @bobknight33.
Life - like cooking - is more complex than it seems

Google's Buzz sucked. So they developed something new that worked -- g+.
Apple's Newton sucked. So they developed something new that worked -- ipad.
Why people demand to get rid of the government when something goes wrong?

I'm sure schools run by local communities would work well in most cases. But then there would be another problems: comparability of degrees, curriculum (e.g. Creationism vs. Evolutionism etc.)

Of course, because people will be able to afford education without taxes paying for it. What would happen is kids would stop going to school and would "learn" at home. The poor would become the poor and uneducated. You think we have a class gap now...

You underestimate people. We all want the the same things in life.

As for our kids, people will rise to the occasion and develop a better system than what the government provide. With such low government standards that would not be hard to do.

If you don't provide a choice then there is truly no hope.

Guess you don't know, but there already is an option along these lines, its called private schooling and it is prohibitively expensive. Sad thing is that private schools have not proven a substantial results. A 2006 NCES study has had mixes reviews as to whether the private educations standardized testing results were better. Is hard to get a long term study on it as private schools arent required to do standardized testing. All told the only real advantage is a smaller classroom size in many cases.
