I think this is a great video for a quick look at the difference between the Jewish/Israeli view of the bible and the Christian view.

Christians hate it when you bring up the Amalekites because it is an excellent sign that their god is a genocidal asshole. Saul, the Israelite king, was actually punished by god for not making sure to kill every last Amalekite and every one of their animals.

Jews, on the other hand, point to the Amalekites as a show of how powerful their god is and what he does to their enemies.

Either way, religion is fucked.

Of course, and what's more, it all actually happened and ancient historians were there to measure and count the numbers of all the fallen so that no account in the bible would be exaggerated or any number hyper-inflated.
