Atheists Explain Why You Don't Die When The Sun Goes Down

Those persnickety atheists are at it again, taking calls and taking names. This time they explain how our bodies hold energy...

From Y/T: "http://www.atheist-experience.com/

An Austin, TX call-in show. This episode features Matt and Russell very patiently explaining why you don't die when the sun goes down."

I really don't care much for these guys. I've seen a few vids of them now, and it's as if, like faux news, they choose the worst possible callers to argue the other side. Are there any vids of them having a serious conversation with someone that a) knows the fundamentals of scientific debate, and b) has even the remotest grasp of reality? I'll upvote that, but as long as they continue to host calls for no other purpose than to show off how clever they are, pffft.

Jonny, the hosts do not control who calls in. Need I really mention such a fundamental thing? Really?>> ^jonny:

Jonny, the hosts do not control who calls in. Need I really mention such an obvious thing? Really?

jonny: Fox news is a major news channel, IF they, as you say, only let the dumb ones on, and I dont know if they do, but lets just say so for the sake of argument, FOX would have no problem doing that, because they get probably thousands of calls, and they probably have alot of people standing by to pick up and filter the calls (Which all major TV and radio stations must do, probably hundreds of jokers and drunk people.

This program, on the other hand, seems to be only these two hosts and a camera man, perhaps a couple more. Several times, they have to cut off calls etc live, and they probably dont get that many calls either.

Secondly, the ones posted here on the sift ARE the stupid ones, because they are funny. Go to their website an look at their shows, and if every caller is as retardedly ignorant as this guy, you may be onto something.

I think jonny means that the clips that get featured tend be retarded people. On the other hand, I suspect only a retarded person would call into this show. How could anyone hope to argue a contrary point on a show like that? That's like calling Bill O'Reilly to suggest Obama would be a better candidate than McCain. Seriously, if it was possible to argue a counter point in those environments, the hosts would become clergymen and stop doing the show.

No, but apparently I need to point out that the hosts decide which callers are put through.

My reference to fox was more about studio and satellite guests, and it was kind of unfair in that I don't have enough data points. But from the few times I have watched it, it does seem they "stack the deck".

Point taken that the small audience size of this show may negate any potential caller screening.

Fair enough if the point of the posts here are supposed to be the most ridiculous callers. But in that case, wouldn't "comedy" or "wtf" be more appropriate channel assignments? It's hardly a serious discussion of atheism/theism. Putting this in the religion channel is sort of like putting fag jokes in the gay channel.

There actually was a pretty good discussion with these guys somewhere else on sift. They demonstrated an understand of what the caller was asking, and their responses clearly showed they also knew the answers to those questions. Additionally the questions were answered eloquently without recourse to distractions or irrelevant examples that tend to crop up so much in such debates. It was mostly about whether not believing was as much an act of faith as believing.

Honestly though, I laughed at this video, and then I felt a sort of sorrow that somebody could be quite so ignorant and deluded. The point of this video is not to debase religion or provide another strong argument for atheism, to me its an admittedly extreme example of the importance of education. To me the idea that you'd be electrocuted if you took a shower is equally absurd as the notion that complex things must have an intelligent creator.

When the fuck did we all start getting powered from the sun? We can synthesize Vitamin D from sunlight, but I get my power from food and water. Don't get me wrong, I see where they were trying to go with this but they sound as stupid as the caller when they don't get their facts straight. Or maybe I'm just mincing words. But you can't argue your point effectively if you can't demonstrate proper logic.

"If you're fundamentally lacking on how things work..." Hmm...

I'm still waiting to see an organized atheist charity disaster relief team. I'm sure they must exist. Or, does it really matter when nothing really matters?
Honestly, why are folks so "hell-bent" on making fun of religion? I guess it's coincidence that my son's dictionary.com word of the day today was latitudinarian.

If you want to make fun of stupid people, don't put it in the context of believers versus non-believers. It's stereotyping, bigoted b***s***

Oh man, I'm going to hell for that one.
