Applying For A Job? Give Us All Of Your Passwords.

Stormsingersays...

The only time "password" is ever mentioned is when the reporter says they want your passwords. Nothing quoted from the city or the city's IT guy said squat about passwords, they just want a list of sites you belong to.

Bad title and summary.

What you don't know, is that on the actual application, next to each line where you are supposed to list the sites, there are lines where you are supposed to fill in your login and password info. Try google. http://bozemandailychronicle.com/articles/2009/06/19/news/10socialnetworking.txt There's an interview with the city attorney saying they do it here:

In other news .. the town has already suspended the practice.

And if I don't know that, after watching their report, whose fault is it?

You miss my point. It's not really my job to find the evidence to support the reporter's claims...especially not when it would have been so easy for them to do it in the report they are making on the subject (they already show some parts of the application, just not the important parts). Their omission amounts to nothing but laziness and/or inept reporting.

You're right. It's not your job to actually get yourself informed about anything. It's the reporters fault. I agree, they could have just put up a picture of the application that clearly shows the spot requesting passwords. But, if it were me, before I made a comment about it, I would actually do the simplest of google searches to see wtf am I talking about before I started talking.

HollywoodBobsays...

A hick town in a hick state has nonsensical requests on its job application, no surprise there.

If you want to be outraged about job applications how about companies insisting on checking your credit report when you apply?
