If the KKK became a church (which isn't hard to do)

would all of you defend the right to wear the pillowcases for kkk church members, like the Nijab (sp) for a Muslim woman?

If not whats the difference?

(the obvious answers might not be so obvious)

And some Americans believe people should be arrested for wearing a Ku Klux Klan outfit.

I would. It would help me know who holds ideals and beliefs that contradict my own and avoid them.
Besides that, freedom only exists if you are free to do the unpopular. Freedom to go with the crowd is not freedom, it's popularism, and that always ends badly.
Sadly, I am often a minority in that mindset.

I'd be in favor of religious people having no special rights or restrictions when it comes to dress code. With masks, either individuals have a right to wear masks or they don't depending on local laws. There are obvious reasons for this, it makes people hard to identify if the commit crimes, and getting away with illegal stuff is very often the reason to wear a mask in first place. That's why the klan do it after all, they're just Christians. Determining if adult mask wearing should be legal is a hard question, but not for religious reasons.

Wearing a hat or a scarf is a completely different matter. Absolutely no one that I have ever heard of objects to secular scarf wearing. It's completely appropriate granny wear. It would be bigoted to start objecting only if it's a religious symbol. Such people would have to object to all religious dress and jewelry to be intellectually consistent.

The only good objection I've ever heard is that maybe you shouldn't obscure your peripheral vision while driving. There, public safety might outweigh the right to dress how you want. It all depends on how big the effect is.

Islam is definitively associated with cliterectomies (Shafi law, the hadiths, etc). (NSFW medical photos.)

For example, in Egypt, 95% of married women have been subject to genital mutilation.

I guess on some issues, Coulter isn't as ignorant as ourselves

Chechnya surely has lower rates, but:
1. Chechnya still has primitive, violent attitudes toward women ("honor" killings).
2. Coulter is talking about Islamic culture in general, the same way the Boston bombings were intended to be on behalf of Islam in general, rather than on behalf of Chechnya alone.

Work to decrease stats like the 95% in Egypt, rather than pretending associations don't exist

A cliterectomy?? Really Ann? You're thinking of the wrong culture there . .

The KKK became a church after it was refounded by William Simmons in 1915.

And yes, I would, and have, defended their rights to wear whatever absurd shit they want, and call themselves whatever absurd D&D names they want, and vocalize whatever shitty opinions they have.

They are free to swing their fists, but that freedom ends at the tip of another's nose. The same goes for anyone.

Holy cow. I honestly didn't know it was that prevalent in Islamic cultures as well. That is quite disturbing! I knew it was still practiced, but I only knew of it's wide use in tribal cultures.....

I still can't get over that it's 95% It's one thing when say, 10% of the population has done it and then I feel bad, but at a 95% rate and around a 50% voluntary rate for a woman to do it to their daughter . . . . That's just frightening.
