Alanis Morissette - My Humps (surprisingly good parodycover)

theo47says...

I believe Alanis is still married to actor/comedian Ryan Reynolds, who probably inspired her to explore her fun side.

Plus, Alanis has always had a nice bod...so, it fits.

doremifasays...

It isn't so incredible: She is repeating pretty much 4 chords over and over in a Phrygian mode (D minor, C, Bflat, A) and singing those lyrics over it. Um, well she looks good.

calvados, I remember seeing Alanis on this cover of Spin Magazine when she first became popular and doing a double-take...but I don't think that fit in with the image she wanted to project for herself, so she never did cheesecake-type shots again.

Assassinsays...

The voice of Alanis is beautiful, but she didn't need this.
Just what is hilarious about this??? Some fat idiots trying to make a parody of the best hip-hop video in 2006.
I mean, the amount of style in 'My Humps' is endless!!!
These guys are a parody to them selfs.
Why doesn't she try to sing one of Missy Eliot's song???

Quboidsays...

Wow that's too weird, I can't look away. I'd never realised just how good a singer Alanis is, I thought she was just a shouty angry chick but she really can sing.

gwiz665says...

What doremifa writes above isn't completely correct, but it's basically just Em - D - C - B.

Good chord progression, if a little boring after 3 minutes. You can say what you will about Alanis Morrissette, but she's got a great voice (unlike the original singer).

doremifasays...

Hey, gwiz665, I was checking to see if anyone was paying attention. No, seriously though, my pitch is usually off by a half note and this shows that its is now a whole one. In any case, it is the same progression - different key - that does get tiresome after a few minutes (like you said). Thanks for the info. Now to tune that there geetar...

Traconsays...

A few of my friends liked the first song now that i played them this version. They can no longer listen to it or enjoy the original, because they know the words now. I always thought the original was sad, fucking pedestrian, banal, uninspired, unimaginative, X (X=thesaurus:search"pablum") turned into this amazing parody of one of the worst songs to ever be played. Finally people can see this bullshit for what it is.

TimothyChenAllensays...

I thought the funniest bit was at 2:34 when all the guys look around clueless trying to figure out what a valid male reaction is when the girl is melting down. Reminded me of my home when Mom would do that.

Abraxas42says...

"omg Alanis is so not up to my high standards of quality parody music all she's doing is chords BCDEFG." Christ people, get over yourselves. God forbid someone try to make you laugh.

By reading your comments about how good Alanis looks and how lame the chord progression is, etc., I can tell that you guys have no idea what this video is about.

Gosh! I'm feeling really disdainful tonight.
