oohahhsays...YouTube comments: Kevin Barrett talks about 9/11 being an inside job and does an excellent job mopping up the floor with a very uppity and pompous Sean Hannity. The best Hannity can do is personal attacks and name calling, while Barrett actually has facts.

Oohh, good one. This is going to be a polarizer.
Allow me to chime in. As much as I dislike W, Rummy, Dick and the rest, I can't believe they are evil enough to plot something like this against their own people. Misguided, xenophobic, ignorant - yes --but it's a long bow to draw to consider they got together in a room and said - "hey, I know what will really get things going, let's blow up the World Trade Center".
samnmaxsays...I agree. I don't really buy into the conspiracy theory view of 9/11. However, this professor clearly has spent time critically thinking about it, and he has come to a different, highly controversial, conclusion. Due to this, he's being accused of being a nutcase, and pundits and politicians are trying to get him fired.
This is a direct and distrubing attack on academic freedom. If someone feels he is wrong, they can certainly make the case. Firing professors because you don't agree with them, whether they are liberals or conservative, is wrong. Students will not be somehow tainted because they took his course. What they learn in university is critical analysis skills, and they should be able to figure out whether or not they think this prof is wrong, or whether ot not blowhards like Hannity who would rather silence his opponents are wrong.

Well put samnmax
theo47says...I'm plenty liberal, but 9/11 conspiracy theories have holes big enough to fly a plane through.
theo47says...I should add that this type of thing is the modus operandi for Fox News, Michelle Malkin, and the like -- find the nuttiest nuts on the fringe and infer that all liberals believe as they do. Just feeds the conservative paranoia machine that's been running since the Red Scare.
joedirtsays...All he says in this video, is the steel from WTC has evidence of thermite or some demo cutting stuff.
What shocks me is that, this should have been a huge crime scene. Instead, the steel was carted off and sold to foreign countries as fast as possible. Almost NO failure analysis, steel testing, etc. was done. Maybe it was poor welds, undersided bolts, low-grade steel, etc. Why wasn't this looked at to prevent future catastrophes? (I mean, yeah, the builders didn't want to get sued) But you have to reasonably ask yourself this.
Now, on Fox, if you even say, a scientist found the following on the WTC steel, you are a wacko nutjob. I love how no one questions Anne Coulter-geist or anyone other true nuts. Instead they give them TV shows, like Glenn Beck.

I believe there is no low to which those people cannot stoop.
westysays...isent the news ment to report fox seem to bring people up then call them names. in anny case evan if the people thay talk to are mad ore not if thay state a fact then isent it the responsabilty of the midea to validate and then report on that fact . the person been interviewd sead that he had evidence of information that gose against the curent exsplination so shudent fox investigate that and then tell people if its true ore not ?
anny way i think everyone is pritty sure fox has an agenda as well as most news companies.so litel chance of real reporting and balenced presentation of facts and opinions . i do love these clips though reli entertaining
rugbybanditsays...as someone who has lived in nyc for 10 years and witnessed 9/11... i think this guy would have a different view of the situation had he been here.
barraphernaliasays...So let me get this staight:
Beligerence = Journalist
Critical reasoning = Nutjob
Does that pretty much sum up Fox"News"?
sfjockosays...FOX= evil pompous clowns
i don't buy the 911 conspiracy theories either, but i condone the dialectic as a way of getting at the truth. fox is ridiculous, as they do not even try to hide the fact they want anything but a real dialogue. they're experts at self-induced hysteria - they can't even discuss a course syllabus without the clownlike attempts at sophistry.
and the regular viewers are the most ridiculous. give them anything but a challenge to think for themselves, or to imagine a shade of nuance. this stuff pisses me off, and is just another example of how -- as jon stewart put it -- the media are hurting america.
grrr. somebody drop a house on me, quick.
westysays...rugbybandit your right if u witniss something first hand you will definatly have a difrent view of things most probably a more emotive fealing towards events.
this however might not be a positve thing. i think most of the time dislocation from events lets you look at it with a more logical unbaist and scrutinising eye.
this might not be true for everyone but for manny i think it would aply.
i think your right in manny respects though as alot of people r happy to jump on band wagons without actuly concidering things properly. i think in this case sumone with a generaly respected job is on a news program stating what thay belive to be a fact. a posable fact that isent as far fetched as manny other things people have sead. surly it would be worth checking it out and then exsplaing the trut. obvously if he was stating an utter obsurdity then yah thair would be no piont but i think we all know the oficeal exsplination is not fully corect weather for securty resions ore not. and i am not saying i belive in anny of the conspiriciecies. as manny of them are badly constructed and have manny problems.
Kruposays...Fox News. It's like an oxymoron or something.
LOL, 'Fox news are the biggest extremists on the planet.'
quantumushroomsays...The guys on the left side of the screen know that Western Civilization is in a war of survival with islamofascist savages. The 1982-looking doof (ironically) on the right side of the screen doesn't understand that in any islamofascist-run country he'd be gladly beheaded for no greater crime than being a Westerner. Barrett's a descendant of a tradition of fools going back at least as far as the 1940s, when his crackpot forefathers claimed FDR knew about the imminent attack on Pearl Harbor "but let it happen anyway" so America would be drawn into WW2.
Ragarnoksays...I'm glad I live in france because our Tv News report aren't a stupid "who can scream louder" and "who can show the most kitties in an hour" farce, yeah that comment is useless tho
skepticalsays...While I'm all for a healthy mistrust of any government. This 911 conspiracy stuff is just getting ridiculous. It seems to be more motivated by hate for Republicans in general (and Bush in particular) than it is any sort of reasoned analysis.
theo47 is correct that Republicans paint "liberals" with a broad brush, but then Democrats do exactly the same with Republicans as well. Both sides refer far to much to name calling and scare tactics.
As to joedirt's comments... a jet plane was flow into each of the buildings & it was caught on film by several cameras! Of course the buildings would have collapsed! A detailed analysis would takes several years (if not a decade or two). As for bad welds, or learning from mistakes...how would you suggest building such a structure to survive a direct hit from a jetliner (other than building it underground)? The structural analysis wasn't considered that important because...
1) Both building suffered severe damage to their structures.
2) The steel in the girders loses much of it's strength at temperatures well within the burn temperature of jet fuel.
Any engineer or architect would already know those facts.
As to the claims that thermite residue was found on the girders...
1) It's unnecessary to invoke demolition to explain the collapse
2) One person can claim anything especially if they have an ideological axe to grind
(get back to me when it's been verified by multiple independent sources).
3) A benefit of talking about thermite is that most people don't know what it is (answer: powdered Aluminium & Iron Oxide).
Let's see now...what was the jet made mostly out of? (answer: Aluminium)
What was the building girders made of? (answer: Steel, which happens to be mostly Iron). So, I'm not very surprised that someone can claim that he found Thermite traces, proving it is a very different matter.
As far as Barrett goes...trying to claim that all of those other terrorist actions were all orchestrated (and with out any major leaks) comes off as being rather implausible. Sort of like the Lunar Landing conspiracy crank claims about all of the launches & landings being faked without anyone being caught. Both sides just ended up resorting to name calling...hardley informative (but not unexpected).
SnakePlisskensays...-
swampgirlsays...Hey, Snake did you see the discover channel documentary a couple of years ago about the construction of the Towers and science behind the collapse? I didn't understand at first how the whole buildings came down like that until I saw this show.
I wish I could explain it and do it justice, but it described how the steel structure holding those floors melted and the floors began to collapse like pancakes. The weight of the floors collapsing flat on top of each other created a cascade effect and it was why they fell straight down like that.
Someone has probably point this out already to the conspiracy folks, and did a better job of it. Not having read this whole thread yet, I don't want to sound like a johnny-come-lately :-P
SnakePlisskensays...-
swampgirlsays...oh no, Snake I wasn't trying to continue the debate with you. It was just a comment :-)
HAMFISTsays...Not that I want to be too much of a jerk, but I was just wondering if it were possible for quantumushroom to pose an argument without sounding stupid?
