Obama at Saddleback Church - Pro-Choice, Not Pro-Abortion

barraphernalia says...

All moral arguments aside. As far as the government is concerned, you don't exist until you're born. Otherwise, every woman in America could claim a few dependent deductions every single year, whether she has any kids or not. So, from a legislative point of view, banning abortion is simply controlling what a woman can and cannot do to her own body.

Let's assume for a minute that the government recognized a fetus as a citizen, therefore granting it all rights under the constitution. They would then be able to make it illegal for a mother to do anything to her body that could potentially harm that citizen inside her. Like shoot heroin. Okay, no biggie there, but what about cigarettes? Caffeine? Salt? Warm baths?

It astounds me that the same people that are "pro-life" are also, with a straight face, for less government interference.

"Pro-life" = Complete government control of a person's body.

Obama Turns Heckling Into a Discussion at Townhall

He's not stuttering at all. Try watching the video again. He is being interrupted constantly by the heckler and his supporters. You can't hear them most of the time, because the sound feed is coming from his microphone.

Sam Harris on stem cell research

barraphernalia says...

His best argument is the one he spends the least amount of time on: that the embryos in question still have the potential to become multiples and then a single person again. If one believes that a soul is unique to an individual, then this would destroy his/her argument.

None of it should matter. As far as the government is concerned, you're a person once you've been born. Unless they want to start giving tax breaks every time a woman misses a period, stem cell research should be federally funded.

Mother of Dead Soldier Sued by Wal-Mart for Insurance Money

Pardon my legal ignorance, but shouldn't Walmart or their insurer (are they one in the same?) sue the trucking company to recoup their losses?

On that same note, shouldn't the Shanks' lawyers (at the cost of $283,000) have been aware of all of this and gotten the Shanks a lot more money? Even if they would have been able to keep the entire $700,000, and She lives to 80, that only works out to about $26,000 a year. That's not a very large amount for a regular person to live off of, let alone someone who is going to need constant medical care for the rest of her life.
