12 Year-Old Comedian Rocks The Apollo

Shepppardsays...

Didn't find it funny at all i'm afraid. Maybe it's because his act is just him making race jokes, and to me, the funniest comedy isn't about having a "bit" it's stories.

Example.. Danny Bhoy, he's Scottish, and that plays into it his act somewhat, but when I went to see him his act was about places he's gone, people he's interacted with and whatnot.. Not just stereotypes.

Race jokes? I felt like the jokes were more about age than race. I was mostly impressed with his delivery and timing and yeah, confidence. I think it takes a lot for comedians to master those kinds of things.

I do know what you mean about hearing a great story though - but this kid is only 12, so cut him a break! >> ^Shepppard:

Dick-faced computer-chair critics are so half-assed they don't know shit about timing and stage presence.

It doesn't even matter if he didn't write his own jokes. Do you have to write your own songs to be a good singer? Your favorite comedian could write you a 5 minute set and you'd bomb when you took it on stage.

I'd say this kid is a comedic prodigy...a natural entertainer. Hopefully he continues to learn the trade and gain some of his own material.

The kid has stage presence and timing etc. But I just don't like the material at all. It's very targeted material at that audience... so it does nothing for me at all.

He may become better as he gets older.

It is an impressive performance for a 12 year old, but not one smile from me I'm afraid.

QuaZeroGermansays...

You guys are lame. "It's very targeted material at that audience..." Who else is he supposed to target it toward? I'm not sure you all understand how stand-up works. See you have a bunch of people sitting in front of you. Your goal is to make them laugh. This kid did that. If you didn't find it funny then you can continue sticking your pinky up when you drink your tea and biscuits, but there is no denying he rocked that crowd.

Race jokes?

What race jokes did you hear?

I didn't hear anything that played on race.
I think what he means is material spoken by a black person to a largely black audience. And maybe that doesn't resonate with him.

I don't know what else he's supposed to do. He's only 12 and the material suits him. Great first joke, the rest isn't quite worthy of the crowd reactions but yeah he's a talented dood.

You must have meant "His grammar and English are so terrible," am I right?
>> ^Unsung_Hero:
His Grammar and English is so terrible he must have dropped out of school to work on his material.

Hurrr Hurrr

There is a point there though. Being not of American stock, I did find his diction a bit indecipherable at times.

Indeed, that will teach me to proofread before hitting the submit button! Haha... Oh well. I guess my point is botched.
