Wierd talk on the Movie "Inception"

CircleMaker says...

So... if it's all a dream, then the part about entering other people's dreams and using the musical cue to wake up is also a dream, as is the whole mechanic of Limbo. If there is no element of the movie that's real at all, the clues he mentions to support that hypothesis aren't valid, since there's no reason to expect dreams to be internally consistent. I found his defense of this (by pointing out the unreality of fiction itself) the weakest part of an otherwise good talk, since coherence is something we normally expect in fiction but not in dreams.

Ron Paul: Let's Admit It, the Country Is Bankrupt!

CircleMaker says...

But that's just it: the treasury isn't the only source of money in the country. Bankruptcy implies defaulting on paying bills, which we haven't done yet. Everybody keeps saying how broke this country is, while the top 0.1% hoard massive amounts of the country's money supply. If we were serious about paying down our debt, we'd acknowledge that the plurality of wealth is concentrated into the hands of a tiny minority. There should be at least two more tax brackets, for millionaires and billionaires, to tap into the vast reserves of cash just sitting in the accounts of people who own private jets. Let's stop fooling ourselves that a nation where this is possible is somehow running out of money.

If Ron Paul had his way, we'd write off all the debt we owe ourselves like it didn't exist. Is that really a responsible solution?

America is the wealthiest nation in the world by a huge margin. We are nowhere close to being bankrupt.

The Single Truest Political Rant Ever to Appear on MorningTV

CircleMaker says...

Gotta agree with bcglorf on this one. Being more nuanced than usual morning TV doesn't make what he's saying completely true. Most Muslims are not crazy terrorists, but most crazy terrorists are devout Muslims. I agree that they aren't terrorists solely because they're Muslims, but if they weren't Muslims... who could say they would still be terrorists and keep a straight face?

Chris Rock - "White People Got Less Crazy"

Progress:
–noun
1.
a movement toward a goal or to a further or higher stage:
"the progress of a student toward a degree."
"the progress of the sun across the sky."
--ion "the progression of time."
Sorry, has to be a downvote. He's associating negative emotional connotation with a word which just doesn't deserve it. There HAS been progress. If black people were even more segregated than they were in 1930, that would also be a form of progress. However, the goal was set by martin luther himself - equality. Progress has been made towards that goal.
Contrary to your opinion, i would say this video is a bad point well made. It must be well made if he managed to convince people into a false definition of a word everyone knows!
Toss emotion regarding race issues aside for one moment when reading my post, please.
Edit: Love chris rock by the way, but this is just nonsense. The word "progress" does not imply that the situation progressed from was a rational situation.

I get what you're saying, but I think Chris Rock was using the word 'progress' to mean 'get better than you were before.' In that light, it's really whites that have progressed, beyond Jim Crow laws and lynch mobs. Black people have historically done a lot to help that process along, but they did not themselves undergo any change in thinking, akin to that which white people have since those days; they always saw unequal treatment as unfair, while their oppressors didn't progress to that point until more recently. At least that's my understanding of what he was saying, and I don't even know what documentary they're talking about.

Okay, guys, here's the plan. We're gonna take the slow, building tension from the original version, which culminated in a world-famous drum fill leading to its conclusion, and spread that like hummus across the WHOLE DAMN TUNE. Throw the drum bit in there right near the beginning. Hell, play it twice. Do it for Colin Farrell.

Obama Calls Out Republicans About Corporate Donations

CircleMaker says...

So basically, he's saying there is nothing wrong with special interests and large corporations funding electoral campaigns, as long as they are up-front about it. Not far enough, Mr. Pres. The corporations doing the donating and advertising will simply use their money and vast marketing resources to appear as concerned citizens fighting for the common good. What should be done: propose legislation that completely prevents campaigns from recieving money from any business whatsoever. Including Obama's re-election bid in 2012.
