I've never tried any illicit drugs and I'm a theoretical physicist. You don't get more open minded than that TBH. Try figuring out the fundamental principles of the universe by just thinking about numbers if you've got a closed mind

On the one hand I've met a lot of people who had their live ruined by pot, and on the other I know just as many people who it hasn't affected (except to drain their pockets). On balance I try to avoid substances that can permanently alter my brain chemistry.

I think requeues are used entirely too much by a lot of people. Personally I think it should be limited to once per video. It defeats the point of sift if you can just brute force a video out of the queue.

Hack your calculator to play Pong!

Good job spazzing out there spoco. I clearly stated in my edit that I realised the display wasn't the right kind when I watched it again. But quite a few simple devices like calculators *do* contain "easter eggs" normally when their rom chips are bigger than they need to be for whatever reason. If canon uses chips with a fixed capacity to make acquisition easier and they use a standard logic then it is in fact entirely reasonable to assume something like this could happen.

Of course it didn't but thats not the point. There's no need to get so angry just because someone posted a fake vid on the internet. "Oh noes! Think of the children!"

Hack your calculator to play Pong!

Erm, why? Nearly all programmable calculators can do much more complicated stuff than this so I don't see why it couldn't be real.

EDIT: on further examination the display type changes when it goes into "pong mode", so I guess you were right. Still it would have been entirely plausible if the creator had used a calc with a matrix display to start with.

BBC presents: The most retarded mac vs pc comparison ever

I'm pretty sure vista doesn't really eat all that RAM when idle. Regardless of what system I install it on and regardless of the amount of RAM it has, usage is always 45-50%. I'm not sure what thats about but its pissed a lot of people off and made them think vista is more of a RAM hog than it really is. (OK its still pretty bad, but not that bad)

You only need to "double your hardware specs" if you were previously on some 2.4 celly with 512mb etc. That struggled to run xp after a while so why anybody thought vista would have lower requirements is beyond me. Its not like apple's offerings could run well on a mac from 10 years ago with modern apps.

Vista was fucked up beyond belief but it was a (marginal) improvement on xp and theres a lot of work gone on behind the pretty GUI to justify the upgrade.

I'd vote against this if I could. Not because I'm against the game in general but because this is a poor run. If you're going to sift some GH then at least make sure the player actually gets a decent run. Admittedly I couldn't even do that, but the amount of notes he misses makes this un-siftworthy.

Tom Cruise and Scientology: Career Death Part 1 of 4

I'm an atheist and I think scientology is more stupid and evil than any other religion. Especially in a mordern context.

The old religions are all established out of folklore, not many people would believe them if they started today but it is traditon that has kept them alive. On the other hand scientology is a modern religion which entices believers into donating large amounts of money to what everybody else sees is a pyramid scheme. The closest analoge is evangelical christianity (the kind where donating $15000 will cure your paralysis).

None of these people at the top really believe in scientology, it just suits them because they get rich off it. Tom C is crazy but he's an actor as well and is it any surprise that he is the front man for this "religion". Why are only the megarich among the highest levels of the organisation? The pope may have his robes and palace but he's not exactly a playboy.

EDIT: I think he was less convincing in the video than he was in MI3
