Everyone is an Asshole

Whatever this field reporter is being paid, it isn't enough

braindonut says...

I was just out in Detroit a few weeks ago.

It was very sad.

Bright side: had a friend who moved there. They were able to get a home that was ridiculously huge and amazing, for very, very cheap. Now they just need to hire some guards.

Hollie McNish - Embarrassed (Breastfeeding In Public)

braindonut says...

Getting kicked out of a place for breast feeding is bullshit. Being kicked off a bus, also bullshit. But being embarrassed - I don't see that going away.

Unfortunately, we have sexualized breasts. In other societies, this isn't even remotely an issue...

I support women being able to breastfeed in public - but unless we figure out a way to remove the sexualization of breasts from our society, the awkwardness will not go away. Men will still feel awkward, because they are trying hard not to look or accidentally catch a glimpse of titty and women will feel awkward because they know people around them are feeling awkward.

If anyone knows how to not feel awkward when a woman is breastfeeding in front of you and you're trying to have a conversation with them, please let me know. Cause I've tried. I've tried hard. And I haven't progressed much further than the "forced eye contact" awkwardness that makes me neck ache with stiffness.

Pump-Action Shotgun Fail.

braindonut says...

He mentioned it was bird shot... If this video is real, thank goodness it was bird shot. More substantial rounds could fly through walls or floors at that range.

I hope this video is fake... People being stupid with firearms is downright scary.

Regarding the other conversation: Whether or not people should pass a test before exercising one of their rights... I'm not sure. Yes, it makes total sense that people should demonstrate firearm safety knowledge in order to own and operate a firearm. But it's not a matter of making sense, it's a matter of "rights" and "principles."

I don't know about other states, but in Michigan you actually have to take a hunter's safety course before you can get your hunting license. (I took one a long time ago... then never ended up ever actually using my license...)

So in certain contexts, we do require people to be relatively knowledgeable about safety. It seems this is limited to where we can impose reasonable, enforceable limits.

But operating a firearm does happen to be a right, not a privilege...

Then again, we're already being subjective with things... You can't own just any kind of firearm... So where do you draw the line?

This topic is a bitch.

Bad Acting From The Last Airbender by M. Night Shyamalan

braindonut says...

Wow, that's really bad. We didn't get that far - my wife and I walked out of the theater after 15 minutes of horribleness.

The mispronunciation of the names, along with the horrible acting and scripting, made this movie utterly offensive to me. M Night Shamalamadingdong is dead to me.

The 'Shandification' of Fallout

braindonut says...

I really liked both games - but he's right... I spent over 100 hours on New Vegas, only 40 on Fallout 3...

I know it didn't get as good of reviews, but I really thought New Vegas was superior.
