Girls and Skateboards

Lolthien says...

That girl had a nice butt.

Honestly, I expected the girls to be riding the skateboards. Does it mean I'm getting too old when I can't just appreciate a nice ass, and have to start feeling bad for these chicks who are really just hung up like pictures in a frame, to be looked at then forgotten?

Was this video trying to say hot chicks will dig you if you buy these skateboards?

Protesting a Protester

This is a great sentiment, and more power to the guy. But I couldn't help but notice with the exception of a single woman in the first ten seconds. Every single person in this video was white.

And equally as useful for controlling a computer apparently.

By the description this is intended to replace a keyboard and mouse? Really? There was zero typing in that demo. And as a mouse.. well, nothing is more fun that hovering your hands up above the desk for 15 minutes.. much less hours at a time.

This may be useful in some circumstances, but I can't see that it would be a KB and mouse replacement.

Also fun is controlling your angry birds with chopsticks.

How is R-money unelectable?
We elected a man with a muslim name, a socialist background, from an anti-semitic racist church who spent his last two years of highschool in a drug-induced haze, then hung out with unrepentant terrorists and visited 57 states, then selected a brainiac Joe Biden to be his running mate?

trololololol

Also, I'm a huge fan of Biden.

Why the "Star Trek" Universe is Secretly Horrifying

Lolthien says...

Actually, with Holodecks and replicators, you could live perfectly happily in little rooms, always have enough to eat and drink, live out every fantasy, borrow other people's fantasies, the human population would basically have no need for anything but a single small planet with billions of little rooms covering it, and effectively you'd have the matrix.

However, having been watching TNG on Netflix off and on for the last several weeks the point about there being no new creative works in the future is just plain false. It seems anytime they spout off a list of great works of history they always mention at least one or two works that haven't been 'created' yet. And they regularly would take poets and artists on board.. they play classical music and Dr Crusher leads dance classes and a small theater troupe.

Still, the Matrix thing really would be the end of civilization.

she's funny...but not THAT funny.

She loves herself too much to be funny. Funny people need to come from dark, self-loathing places.

Really? Maybe it is just the mood I'm in when I watched this just now, but I thought the fact she was having so much fun helped make it more enjoyable. I got the impression that she didn't think she was being funny so much as she knew she was being stupid, and really didn't care so much.

Again, I'm sure if I was in a different mood when I watch this it wouldn't have been NEARLY as enjoyable.

This is just LMFAHS hilarious, but it should be flagged NSFW. I was trying very hard to contain myself but I simply couldn't hold in my laughter.

Me too man. I don't think I could have gotten the car that far out of position if I was TRYING to.

Dan Savage on the bible at High School Journalism convention

I'm pretty sure his point isn't that the bible is terrible... but he's tired of people living 'by the code of Leviticus on this one issue, and no other."

A Fascinatingly Disturbing Thought - Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Lolthien says...

>> ^Fantomas:

I too believe Neil puts too much emphasis on the 1% figure. It's true that this 1% has given us a reverse pelvis allowing us to walk on two legs, freeing our hands, and given us a relocated voice-box to allow us to vocalise language. But these are just biological tools, it's how we use them that is important. We are not born with a language built in or the ability to use our hands in a skilled way, these things must be taught and learned, which is what pushes us beyond this '1%'.

Actually, there has been an interview done with Chomsky in Discover magazine that would suggest that certain phonetic patterns similar to language are, in fact, inborn. There is evidence that there may be an instinct in humans to communicate through language with certain forms and rules common across all races and places. I thought that was a very interesting interview.
