What's Up With The Queue?

About a week ago, uhohzombies noted that the queue wasn't sorting properly. This was right after some layout changes and the new search was added, so I figured it was going to get fixed with the rest. Unfortunately, it's still not working. Specifically, clicking on the Unsifted tab always goes to some strange sort order. It appears to be best votes/views, but I don't think it's even doing that, as the order is broken in the first few pages. Additionally, the queue preferences widgets still report whatever the user had selected.

Also, it's probably worth noting two other major bugs in the unsifted area. One, the number of views is not counting correctly (it never really did). A few days ago I had a vid with 6 votes and only 4 views, which should be impossible.

Second, and more importantly, viewed videos do not remain hidden despite having that option checked. This has never worked properly. It seems like videos reappear shortly after siftbot has moved some into personal queues, so perhaps some flag is being cleared when a video is age checked for queue removal.

As Stormsinger mentioned last night, the problems are annoying enough to deter regular queue visits for some folks.

I've also noticed recently that sometimes the queue doesn't sort properly. I've set my account to view unsifted videos by newest queue date, and yet I'll see some older videos mixed in with the newer ones. Even more frustrating: Sometimes I'll also notice some videos don't show up at all in the unsifted section (or if they're there then they're WAY out of order), even though I'll see them in the Hot section.

I think we have a bug on our hands.

I must "confess" that sometimes I vote for a video without viewing it. This only happens when I've seen the material before, like a music video or a clip from a film or TV show. If the thumbnail looks like it fits the title or description I'll sometimes upvote without viewing it again.

There, I said it, and I feel better for doing so. I can now die with a clean conscience.

I can address the count issue. You can definitely have more votes than views if someone votes on your video from the queue page without viewing it.

I remember that's how it worked when the votes/view sort order was first implemented, but I thought Lucky changed it so that any vote cast would also count as a view.

Either way, I'd like to see how unique views are counted. The original idea behind the votes/views sort order was that the ratios for all vids would fall in a fairly tight range, thus allowing a pretty good mix of vids on the first page or two of the queue. We all know that doesn't happen right now. Instead of waiting for a vid to be expanded or opened on an individual page, I propose we change it so that every vid on a listing page has it's unique view count incremented. In other words, when a user clicks the Unsifted tab, every vid on that page that doesn't have a view for that user gets its unique view count incremented.

I know people are still doing this, and all I can say is I still think it's a really bad idea. You don't know if the video is dead. You don't know if the audio and/or video quality is any good. You can't be sure it's the same thing you've seen before. You may have changed your mind. The version posted here may have an annoying overlay ad. Any one of those (and many other potential differences) might cause you to change your vote. At the very least, you should expand and begin playing a video to verify that it is alive and identical to what you've seen elsewhere.

I thought I'd chime in here, instead of making a new sift talk.

I have 4 unsifted videos right now, but I'm a standard member, 3 is my limit. Schmawy promoted out of my pqueue, it still didn't get it's 10, but now it's sitting in Unsifted with my other 3 submissions. I don't mind, of course, but is that right or something odd? Is it just getting a requeue treatment with it's promote?
