WeShow: New video aggregator on the block

I saw over at techcrunch a new site has launched called WeShow that has a very similar mission to the sifts. Have the users vote on videos to weed out the crap. I have signed up and their voting system is a little awkward, you don't actually up or down vote a video, you rank the videos in a category from best to worst. Also they have a most viewed list similar to youtube, etc but I am not sure if this is based on the total video views or how many views at weshow. Interesting site and I am still messing around to get a feel for it but though maybe some others would like to try it out and give their opinions on it. You know what they say, know your enemy.

I wonder what it costs to get tech crunch to review you. We have been trying to get them to profile the sift for a year or so and this no name upstart without even a lowly page rank of one gets a write up, absurd.

Do you hear that? The drums of war beat loudly.

jeepers, they sound like pros!!!
Investors include The Pilot Group (owned and managed by Bob Pittman, father of MTV and ex-COO of AOL Time Warner) and Bill Sahlman (Harvard Business School vice-dean and professor of entrepreneurship). The amount of funding has not been previously disclosed but is believed to be around $5-7million. (a possible answer to Roe's question)

How many mil did videosift start with dag???

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

At least 1 million ... ass pennies. It looks slick, I must admit - but one thing these well-funded start-ups never seem to understand is that a slick site does not a good community make. It's about the members - luckily these bozos don't seem to have this figured out either.

The only thing interesting is a classic channel - you know, videos that have marked an era, blah, blah, blah.
The moon landing. Treaty of Versailles, Pope John Paul II getting shot etc.
That would be interesting over here, a collective of videos that have glued it's way into the collective subconscious or just really well known stuff that's sometimes interresting to revisit.

It's a crap site. At least in the sift you can keep crap out but that just seems to be a cesspool where everything that stagnates sinks to the bottom. My loyalties are still with the sift. All of Bob Pittmans monies and dreams of cashing in on a good idea can lie with the other failed ideas of uber-wealthy investors.

Speaking of that whatever happened to the XFL? or Ishtar?

Well rip-off's are a part of history dates way back to when Grog made a wheel that looked a lot like Oggs. But he called it a rolling disc. Grog is such a prick...

By the way my new website videoshift.com is almost ready too.

Slightly off-topic, but chime.tv has a very nifty Flash UI.. videocentric, not metadata centric. In other words the vid takes over the screen if you want, and the navigational elements fade away. This is quite nice, though I haven't used it heavily.

Oh man, WeShow is fugly. It's like EVERYONE iS talKing ALL at OnCe, looK heRe NoHere.. ugh. Though I don't get how their front page is 10.55K and VS is 19.
