Wanted: Good Punk
The Sift can totz help me out with this I'm sure. I want to listen to more good punk and I want your suggestions. I already know (or know of) a fair number of punk bands (the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Ramones, etc etc) but from what I've heard I've most liked Offspring, Social Distortion, and Flogging Molly (some or all of which may not be very punk, I know). A friend said Bad Religion and they're alright -- Propagandhi I didn't care for -- Dropkick Murphys are OK -- any other recommendations?

There's none more punk than GG Allin. There's an awesome documentary out about his life.

Thanks eric and Mr. C!
Refused was the last great punk-rock band.
They were 'hardcore' punk; intense sound... don't know if thats up your alley. They were very socially conscious and serious, but genuinely clever in lyrics and musical arrangement. And I've never seen their equal in on-stage intensity (The Dillinger Escape Plan came close, back when they first started).
I think they broke up about ten years ago, but their last album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shape_of_Punk_to_Come) still sounds pretty new to me...
There's a band out of NYC called Tied For Last and they're pretty rough around the edges. I loathe MySpace but it's the only URL I know of belonging to them:

Definitely listen to Frank Black's Cult of Ray. It's probably the best punk record I've ever heard.
