StumbleUpon video

Wow, I'm amazed at how wicked powerful StumbleUpon video is. I'm not sure how they select videos for inclusion in their lists, if it is digg like, sift like, any old random video.
Anyways, I think VS could incorporate an autoreloading page list this (for Collectives? and CHannels?)

we've actually been discussing this for quite a while. The drawbacks would be incorporating our community features, namely commenting and navigating to channel and collective pages, and also accurately representing our total number of page views. Ajaxification is great for users, and not so great for someone trying to prove their site is hugely popular.

Well, what would be nice (and easy) is a list of "categories" and a page that randomly picked one of the say.. top 10% rated videos at random and autoplayed it when you clicked on the "sidebar" list of channels and Collectives.

Cats & Dogs
80s
Viral
Religion
Animation

and you clicked on those and they go to
cooking.videosift.com/autoplay

Which brings up the video (with comments?) and the embed code changed to autoplay...

Looking at "Learn More", it says that the player plays videos based on the interests you list as a user of Stumble Upon.

I've used StumbleUpon some. It marries a rating site with social networking. Your interests are used to link you with other people as well as different media. Someone liked one of my blogs and invited me to try out the service.

There is a StumbleUpon toolbar available for Internet Explorer and Firefox users. So when you read an article, see a video, etc., you like, you can simply hit the thumbs up or thumbs down. Others can come to your profile and see your ratings. There's a “network” page that shows all the avatars that have visited your page. It also lists "friends-of-friends" and “similar stumblers.” A “friends” page lists all your “friends,” “suggested friends” and “fans” (people who subscribed to you). Another page lists your interests as links makes suggestions for discussion groups you may consider joining.

There have been three updates in the last week, so I haven’t had a chance to play with the revised toolbar.

By the way, StumbleUpon limits users to 200 friends. A little box under an avatar indicates how many fans a stumbler has. The more the box is filled with green or blue, the more fans the stumbler has. Green represents a sponsor that pays for additional features. Blue represents a member who uses the service free.

Nice UI! Looks a lot like Pandora. There's all sorts of interesting and smart things VS could do with the metadata/voting history in place. (Users who liked BDSM kitty spanking also liked ____). Think VS meets Last.FM. There's public domain code for collaborative filtering/marketbasket analysis out there, think I sent it to Lucky a while ago.

Could make our timewasting a lot more efficient

Ooookah. No response from the staff..

Maybe I wasn't clear. I thought this site could use an autoplay page, where on one side of the screen is a list of channels and Collectives. (Maybe with Icons)

When you click on a category name, a random video from said Channel / Collective shows up with Google/YouTube autoplay embed code on yes/autoplay.

It allows you to just click and click and watch categorized videos all day.

What this site allows rather than StumbleUpon, is newer sifted content. StumbleUpon is great, but very few videos, and they take awhile for good videos to rise pretty high.

You know JD, I read a little of this thread earlier today and then just started playing around with search in StumbleUpon and Google. I was surprised how many returns you can get just by searching our member names.

well SU and SU newer video flash player, are totally different. You wouldn't get any traffic from the video player since it just loads YT ang GV inside their own flash player (which can disable some buttons!) Yeah, SU has been around forever, that's not what I'm talking about.
