It offers content through those thumbnail widgets below embeds. But a click won't send you straight to your desired content. Instead, you end up on Scribol's page, where they want to leech just a few more clicks out of you.

I'm oldschool, and this form of artificial traffic boost bugs the fuck out of me.

We're just trying it out. It's generally pretty good content - and it would be nice to expose VideoSift to some people who would not normally visit us. The way it's supposed to work is that for every outgoing link we get a 2-3 back, from people seeing our content on their sites. If it winds up being really annoying to people in general we'll get rid of it -or just leave it on for non-logged in folks.

I didn't mean to complain about it. I just didn't understand what it was.
I don't see how this would adversely affect the Vs experience.

I've made a tweak so that if you are using an ad blocker the "Stories from Partner Sites" text won't show up at all, nor will the big invisible box. (It's always annoying when ad-blocked content leaves behind traces of it's intended existence.)
