So can you fix a Discarded video?

So for this video:
http://videosift.com/video/A-Ball-Thrown-Back-100-kmh-From-A-Truck-Moving-100-kmh

It was dead more than 2 years ago. Apparently there wasn't a dead pool back then or something, because it was auto-discarded after a week.

Well I found some replacement embeds, a bit shorter than what I remember the original video to be, but it has the important stuff. Is there anyway to fix the vid, even if it's discarded?

To do it your way, first someone would have to * promote it back to life, then either:

1. Do a *backup invocation with the embed code you have, then mark it as *dead. This would fix the video immediately.
2. Mark it as *dead, then in 48 hours someone (you, I suppose) could fix the embed for a power point.

However, as I mentioned, someone would have to * promote it back to life first before doing either of the above options.

Note that you also have the option of posting the video yourself. All discards are fair game for being posted again by someone else, regardless of why they were discarded, even if they were discarded in the pre-Dead Pool days for going dead. That might be the simplest solution.

It's not kosher to resurrect a discarded video, even if it was put there before the dead pool.

Discarded is discarded.

That said, it's certainly possible. What I would like is a dupeof that merges comments. It makes no sense not to.

*Promoting discarded videos is 100% kosher. It has been that way ever since the *save invocation was dropped. Discarded videos CAN be legitimately resurrected. Just check out this video's comment history if you doubt it. No one did anything wrong when they * promoted it back to life - repeatedly.

* Discard doesn't mean a video is taken out of commission permanently. That's what the * kill function is for. >> ^gwiz665:

@kronosposeidon

Well, there are some inherent problems with allowing it. If you're absolutely certain no one has sifted it afterwards, then alright, but if you promote a discarded one that another member has sifted again, you will essentially make the newly posted one a dupe and that's definitely not kosher or nice. In fact, it's a complete dick move.

I agree it's a shame that comments are wasted if a post is discarded/killed, but like I said a way to merge of comments would be wonderful.

@gwiz665

First, you always have to check for dupes anyway before submitting any video, regardless of the circumstances. Secondly, if a video is * discarded, then the same video is newly posted by someone else, then the newly posted video becomes the original. So if anyone * promotes the old * discarded version, the * discarded version becomes the dupe. It's come up before, and that's the way it has been handled, so no one is allowed to get away with a "dick move" like you suggested anyway.

Problems can arise, but they can be cleared up easily.

Sure, fair enough. From a "player" standpoint the old one would be the dupe, but as far as the videosift rules work - as in what can be done without interference from the admins - the newest posted one is the dupe and can be dupeoffed to the old one. My point being that it's just an issue which inherently causes trouble.

The times that it has happened, we've fixed it so no dick moves were completed (actually, @lucky760 had to go in and undupe the post and kill the old one if my memory serves - lots of work for the poor chap).

As long as people are careful about it, I'm not too concerned, I just don't *like* having a powderkeg of potential problems simmering under our feet. I'd love to see all currently discarded posts converted to kills and clear out any potential problems.
