Sift Week Podcast

Would anyone be interested in listening to - or participating in - a "Sift Week" podcast? The format would be me or someone else talking about what's happened on the Sift over the past week and then interviewing a notable Sifter - kind of like @persephone's earlier Siftographies. I don't know if I'd be good at podcasting, but it's enough out of my comfort zone that I'd like to try. Plus, I've been told I have a great face for radio! If you have any suggestions on the kinds of topics you'd be interested in hearing about on a VideoSift podcast or general suggestions - let me know.

Sounds like a very good idea. Try to work out some pod-specific features (the interview is a good one for a start) and some general chat about the Sift would be interesting.

Is it worth picking a channel each week and using that as themed inspiration and jumping off point for chat?

A channel theme for the week - that's a good idea.

No, you're going on the guest list. We need to discover your political views - you're so opaque.

Lol. I'd love to laugh mercilessly at listen to that train wreck gift of brilliance. Nah, just playing. Sounds awesome.

I always thought it would be neat to have a "sifter colloquium" sort of thing via sift talk, but a podcast format would be even better probably. One thing I like so much about the sift is everyone has such a different background and "specialty." Because of this I thought a weekly or monthly "colloquium" where one person is spotlighted and would give a brief talk on their specialty via a sift talk would be really fun to read. An audio interview over the phone/internet available for podcast would also be really neat to listen to, I think. It would be fun to hear sifters actually talking about the things they are most passionate about in an interview setting. Alternately, I wouldn't mind listening to @dag talk about the history of the sift via podcast, it sounds really interesting to me

that's assuming you could get people onboard to talk to

edit: by the way, thanks @dag for posting the link to those siftography interviews. I had no idea such a thing existed and they are really interesting

That actually sounds awesome! I'd love to hear Dag interview prominent Sifters and learn things about the people who watch all these cat videos with me. As the first person ever hobbled, I put myself forward to be interviewed.

I like the idea, especially @Deano's channel theme tip. If you ever get to the jazz channel, I'll put myself up for participation.

I'm only afraid that there will be too little subject material. The activity on the sift comes and goes, and I have a hard time imagining what interesting could come out of discussing the discussion on the latest cat video. The majority of what "happens" on the Sift over a week revolves around the top 15 videos, and while the quality of the comments are usually above youtube level, I have to admit that they are not always newsworthy. And I hate to say it, but when you say "talking about what's happened on the Sift over the past week" I visualize @dag and @kronosposeidon gossiping about the latest Sift drama / Siftquisition and what it means for the future of the community. As entertaining as that might be, such dramas are best left untouched after they have fizzled out, in my opinion.

What I'm trying to get at with all these unnecessary words is that it would be good to hear a little more precise what you think to fill the time spot with. I'm sure you have some ideas, since you have come so far as to propose starting a podcast. I'd just hate to see a good initiative fizzle out because of unrealistic expectations.

Wow, I'm such a spoilsport. I promise that my next comment will be more positive.
