Should we have a *graphic tag?

Not sure if you've heard, but there's a protest going on in Egypt. It's news. Some of us feel it's important. But some of the videos show harrowing images of brutality, torture and even death.

And placing graphic videos like these under the same NSFW tag as videos with the word "fuck" in it is a bit too broad. Should we entertain the idea of having a *graphic tag to be used only for videos demonstrating extremely graphic visuals such as death, police beatings, torture, etc.

We have to face it at some point that we're living in a global-centric world when it comes to news and events. What say you?

*graphic would be good. However, what if a video is *brief, *nsfw, AND *graphic (or *long, *nsfw, AND *graphic)? Where would all those tags fit? Look at this. See how there's only room for two tags below the thumbnail? That could be a problem. If we were to have a *graphic tag, it might have to supersede the *nsfw tag, basically meaning if something is tagged *graphic it could be all sorts of crazy shit the boss might not like OR might make you a little queasy, so watch it at your own risk. Even then, this solution might not be acceptable to some. Some members might have bosses who don't care if you watch a video of someone having his brains spattered against a brick wall, but a nipple slip or a "motherfucker" earns you a pink slip.

I don't know nothing.

I do like the idea, because nsfw can be anything.

I suppose we could make it an upgrade to the nsfw, like NSFL (not safe for life), which is bigger and redder and warns off people more vigorously.

Seems like what you want here is to make NSFW more specific - NSFW-V (violence), NSFW-L (language), NSFW-N (nudity), NSFW-S (sexual content), etc. Then they can be combined, for instance, "Holy shit! That guy's head just got blown clear the fuck off!" = NSFW-VL.

If anybody's head is getting blown off or people are getting beaten to death... well it's snuff, and should be removed from the sift.

Apart from that there are two types of NSFW - videos that have swearing and those that have something else (nudity, brutality etc...). That's the only split of NSFW I'd make.

No, because people being decapitated or beaten to death is newsworthy and, thus, exempt from the snuff rule.

There are videos on VideoSift that depict fictional events which are still NSFW.

@kronosposeidon is right, there isn't any room for additional tags and honestly, it would get really convoluted if any more tags are added on top of the existing ones. My suggestion would be to make an overlay a la FlashBlock that warns you more specifically about the nature of the content before you get to the video itself. However I'd reserve that for the more extreme cases, because I'd be annoying if every NSFW video had such an overlay.

I like this idea, I don't sift while I'm working, but I do sift at home. I find the NSFW tag ambiguous in that environment. Like if my kids are up and buzzing around the house I don't mind something that's NSFW-L.. but I don't want to watch NSFW-S. And I never ever ever want to watch NSFW-V.
