won't speculate on Oscars, but I would recommend some movies I've seen this past year that have left an impression and/or made me laugh. trust me, the list isn't long:
#1 The Bands Visit
#2 Gomorra
#3 Happy-Go-Lucky
#4 Slumdog Millionaire
#5 In Bruges
and that's it, folks! what can I say, it was a poor year for the movie industry. I'm sure I left out some, but if I can't even remember them now - fuck'em, probably not worth a mention...

Gomorra. saw it. recommend it. excellent.

Shitty fucking nominations. The Oscars can go swivel.

Best picture: get rid of Benjamin Button & The Reader, replace with The Wrestler & Dark Knight, the eventual winner being The Wrestler.

Why the hell is The Wrestler not on the list? Because it's not coated in gloss? No happy ending? The script too good? Un-fucking-believable. One of the best films I've seen in a long long time.

And Dark Knight? Pompous twats. Couldn't bring themselves to whack a Batman film on the list, even though it's recognised by pretty much every other human being in the world as being a truly incredible film.

I now hate the Oscars nearly as much as the Globes.

DD, while Batman was good, it was a bit depressing/dour for my taste and lacked the kind of acting you'd look for in an Oscar film. Ledger's turn was extremely good but it lacked true menace; I never felt truely scared of the guy. And it should stand on it's own merits rather than have people start these ridiculous campaigns.

It would be criminal to not give Rourke the best actor award. At times, his acting is so good you feel like you are watching a documentary.

And, for the record I though In Bruges was TERRIBLE. It is a dreadful script, the plot is boring. It doesn't even dress up boring like Remains of the Day...

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE movie. Do not see it.

Disclosure aside (in that I can'tpost lips from Dark Knight due to our rules) I was very disappointed in the lack of nominations for Dark Knight. Despite personal connections there were many great movies this year but TDK stands above as one of the few that will be remembered for years to come.

Leading Performance By a Male Actor
Frost/Nixon - Frank Langella
Hands down, best. Mickey gets runner-up

Performance by an actor in a supporting role:
Revolutionary Road - Michael Shannon
Brilliant performance in a meh film

Performance by a leading actress:
Doubt - Meryl Streep
She is awesome with a double helping of awesome sauce

Performance by a supporting actress:
Doubt - Viola Davis
fantastic performance, 2nd place Marisa, but I can't imagine she would want to win another supporting actress oscar, as the last one nearly killed her career

Animated Feature of the Year:
WALL-E
Duh!?

Best Picture:
Slumdog Millionaire
Best Picture out of the 5 nominations, I will agree with others that TDK should have be nominated and I would have thrown my vote at it.

my .02 worth
