I just wanted to say...

Just because it has Sarah Palin in the video doesn't mean you have to post it. Wait until there is something important or at the very least, interesting.

Use the little voice in your head that says, "Is this video really worth posting?"

Just my opinion!

I second that. Videosift has gone from one of my favorite to one of my most disliked over the course of the last 6 months. I don't find an ounce of interesting material or entertainment in Fox News, Olberman, political bloopers, or the insane redundancy that is Election '08. I can't believe so many sifters haven't burned out on it yet. Then again, you get more videos published when you post clones of what's already in the top 15. And the gold star, that's what it's all about, right?

Sarah Palin has been a comedian's dream come true, but I agree it's starting to feel a bit stale at this point. However, election videos will likely dominate the sift at least until November 4th, so those who aren't into politics are in for a frustrating couple of months. I know reddit allows users to filter out channels they don't like, so maybe VS could do the same thing.

It's almost an addiction for me. I promised maybe a few videos ago that I'd stop posting them. But Palin is going to produce SO much quality material until November that it's hard to resist the temptation.

From now until next week, I won't post political videos.

Filtering out Election '08 videos won't change the fact that there's a lack of quality videos getting published on the sift. I've got 4 videos in my PQ that I beg once in a while because it's stuff I legitimately enjoy, I'm 4 videos shy of a bronze star but I won't resort to publishing the crap I don't like just to boost my worth around here. My PQ isn't for most people, of course (yeah, most if it is probably considered crap,) but I'm happy with my own little piece here. I just find it hard to believe so many people around here are this interested in Sarah Palin. I get more than my fill from 15-30 minutes of NPR five days a week.

Here's an idea: Let people post the videos they want (barring porn and snuff), and then let the membership vote on them. Hey, that just might work. I'm going to tell dag about it!

If this process isn't yielding the desired results for you, i.e., completely and 100% objectively "quality" videos aren't being published, there are approximately 68 bazillion other web sites to visit on the internet.

If I'm being a little brusque, it's because I'm SO tired of the never-ending complaint of "There is a lack of QUALITY videos getting published!" Crikey!

Who wrote the book of QUALITY anyway? Was it you? Was it me? Did I watch to much TV? Is that a hint of accusation in your eye?

I find this encouraging -- if people are already tired of Palin after 2 weeks, just imagine what it'll be like if we're stuck with her for four whole years.

Seriously, people, think about that.

FOUR WHOLE YEARS!

...with a chance for eight.

From what I see and read around here, sift often gets flooded with videos that are knocking the same beat, no matter how off-time, because people see what's hot and take the opportunity to publish a cacophony of redundant videos for the star points. I think what Sagemind is trying to say is that many of you should know better than to keep hitting the pipe in this shameless quest for points, and to refrain from posting something trite even if *you know* it's going to get the votes simply for being what it is. Point being, you make this site what it is, so be careful that you don't crap where you eat.

My first published video was of George Carlin after his death. Despite the fact that his jokes were sub-par and the video was pretty dull, it has more votes than any of my other videos. I would kill it if it weren't for the fact that it was some of his earliest material, my only justification for posting it up in the first place. Sentiment has a strange ability to win hearts over something of true value. If 50 Sarah Palin videos means that even one video from the Onion might get overlooked (impossible, i know) then all my hope would be lost.

Okay, enough tomfoolery, KP! In regards to the abundance of Palin videos on the Sift, it's just another political meme and it's topical. The same could be said for Obama videos OR Ron Paul videos month back.

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I would post Palin videos because I deeply, deeply care about preventing her from gaining office. And if the Sift can somehow contribute to that effort ... open the flood gates on Palin river!
