Hiding Videos

By popular request, a new feature is now available for all members. There are currently two methods by which members may cast votes for videos: up and down. Another new feature recently added allows a member to hide queued videos for which (s)he has already voted. This is a nice feature, but was just short of some Sifters' expectations. It was requested that a third voting option be added to indicate "I don't want to vote this up or down, but I just don't want to bothered with seeing it again."

Instead of modifying the voting system to allow for this, a much more managable method has been implemented. A special playlist titled "Hidden From My View" is automatically available to all members, and any videos added to this special playlist will not be included in the video listing of the front page or the queue. Using this playlist method, you can still view the videos you've hidden and maybe cast a vote at some later time. Another benefit is that you can make the list visible to everyone if you desire to share your feelings with the rest of the siftmunity.

Note: The playlist cannot be deleted and its title cannot be changed, but you can modify all the other settings for the playlist as usual.

Please post your suggestions and report any problems here. Merry Christmas! :-)

Update: This description has changed a bit, so you may want to re-read it, but the most important point is the special playlist name has been modified.

Where is the "meh" vote link? I've been off the grid a few days up in the boonies of NH. (The withdrawal shakes and pink elephants are worst the first). I'm in the Queue and don't see a "Meh" link.. would expect it to be by the up/down arrows.

Hopefully this makes it to the main sift as well. So I can goof off more efficiently

Get back on the grid and read the body of the post first, silly!

James speaks the truth. If you have any problems, let us know.

Gotcha... serves me right for skimming
IMO, the UI is confusing if you haven't used playlists before. The other UI (weevil in the baking ingredients) is cleaner. I can't figure out how to "browsed to your full playlist listing"... have visited http://www.videosift.com/playlist/winkler1.

Edit: Figured it out. Was created until I made a test playlist. I'm 99% sure it wasn't there until I made a test playlist. Tried refreshing a couple times before doing so.

You're right, winkler. It is kind of unintuitive. The reason it was even more confusing is it wasn't creating the playlist for you when it should have; my fault, but is fixed now.

Also, I've made it a bit easier by it just being available automatically, so if you go to add a video using the 'add to playlist' link it'll already be listed and if you go to view your playlists it'll be there; there are no longer any prerequisites. I think a more obvious name for it like "Hidden Videos" and a more prominent note in its settings might be better too.

Sorry for those *uh-hem* sun spots, folks; there was a full moon out last night (somewhere), siftbot got a little tipsy and pulled the wrong lever. Yeah, that's it.

All of the duplicate "Meh" playlists have been tossed into oblivion. More importantly, the magic playlist is no longer using that name because as fun an idea it was, it was shaping up to be far too confusing for its worth. Now it is called "Hidden From My View" which is much more self-explanatory and should make it a much more new user friendly.

Again, if there are any problems or suggestions about this feature, please share here. Thanks friends.

Now I'd better run to work.

Cheers Lucky...damn shame you have to work so soon after Chrimbo!

EDIT: Oops, now I've got 14 19 'Hidden From My View' playlists! SiftBot is suffering a hangover I think...
