Google Buys Youtube for 1.65 Billion
In case you didn't hear.
Somehow I'm not suprised. Of course this will have no impact on the VS community. I just wanted to share the news of google becoming one step closer to taking over the world.

I posted this last week with an article on YouTube in Forbes:

Wow! So what do you think this will mean? Do you think eventually they will merge all the youtube content into Google Video? Or keep a separate but equal system.
I imagine they will go like flickr or anything else. They will move the backend storage and bandwidth into the googleindustrialcomplex. And keep the frontend and userbase. maybe tweak the interface. I do wonder with the size limit of YT vs. GV... I also wonder if they will let GV linger instead of competing. I imagine searching and rankings on youtube might finally work better.
I also feel like youtube will be google's version of myspace.

Interesting take on the purchase from Mark Cuban: "I Still Think Google is Crazy"

The gist is that Google is going to be swamped with lawsuits now because of all YouTube's copyright infringements.
Similar, but much shorter analysis, here.

The Real Reason Google bought YouTube. Interesting Graph, shows the growth of YouTube compared to Google Video - gosh they were absolutely smoking them.

I think this shows the other reason. The only way to catch MySpace is with YouTube.
